When a man says 'evening wear' what does he mean??

Ok so my DH calls me to tell me to get evening wear for Valentines day. I said ok where are we going...cant tell me. Ok so is it very formal or casual formal? A gown or dress? Pants? What? Cant tell me. The one thing I do know is that we are going out with 2 other couples and neither girl knows what to wear. So what should I do? I saw a really nice pants outfit in Cache (but in black)

our something like this?

I know he is wearing a suit. I dont want to be under or overdressed.

I would wear a black dress like the ones you posted. YOu can pretty much wear a black dress anywhere.

While a formal gown or dress pants could also work - it might not be right.

I really like the first outfit- in THAT color.

Those dresses are nice too.

Try to get more hints from him.

Like you said everyone's interpretation of formal is different.

If it were my DH and he told me-formal I would go for one of the black dresses.

ooooo...I LOVE the last dress!

I wouldn't worry about being overdressed-it's Valentine's Day! If DH is wearing a suit, you're fine with a black dress.
