When did I turn into my Mother????????????????

I find myself saying things and thinking things that I NEVER thought I would. These are things that I had heard my Mom say a million times and SWORE I would NEVER think that way.

For example - I see someone around 18 yrs old, smoking a cigarette and think 'OMG- So young to be smoking' (first, I am not sure when 18 became so young to me, and I was smoking at 18!!)

My niece got engaged and my first thought is 'She is way too young to get married' (she is 23) - this may also be because she is very immature.

There are other things as well

I guess I am just wondering when I became older I know I tried not to

It is scary when we realize we are saying the same things our parent said!

I rather think of it as maturing rather than growing older!

I turned into my mom on b-day # 25. Now I am just plain OLD!!!!!!!!!!! How old are you?

I'm just plain old too.

When I see like a 12 year old riding a bike in the street or loitering, I scream 'WHere is your Mother'

Len thinks I'm nuts, but these things drive me crazy.

I do the same thing. My neighbors are the way I used to be and I want to kill them. Matt thinks I am nuts too. My favorite saying is now.... If that was my kid I'd........

Last year, my sister once went up to a much younger cousin that we havent seen in years, and you guessed it, said 'Oh my god, I haven't seen you since you were this big' Then immediately said 'I am so sorry for saying that. I never liked it when relatives said that to me'

MNJ - I do the same thing 'If that was my kid....

I am so not as liberal as I used to be. I guess these changes have been happening over time. I don't know why it just hit me like a ton of bricks today.

How about this. I use to laugh at my mom for: cutting coupons, returning defected items, arguing with a sales associate about price adjustments, and not buying things if they weren't on sale or she didn't have a coupon. Now ... I think that I'm worse then her!! She laughs at me and says now I understand! I can just imagine what I'll be like when I have kids!

I can totally relate. I've heard myself say a few things lately that I nearly choked on! Like, 'People have no consideration anymore!' and 'I hate to see what the world will be like when these kids grown up and start running things.' Geez! Makes me sound like I'm 80 years old!

I have to say, though, I'm making a VERY conscious effort not to turn into my mother. There are certain aspects of her personality and behavior that I VOW with all my being that I will NOT take on as my own.

I'm just as liberal as always, but I have become part of the 'older' camp. I got up at 11:30 last night to ask my neighbor to turn down his radio. Boy did I feel old.

I am my mother's daughter - we are so much alike but doesn't bother me makes me happy - but I have a pretty young mommy!

but as far as being old...I also always say my child will never do XYZ...if that was my kid ... . Or when I see 12 year old kids cursing up a storm - I always say watch your mouth to myself and get the urge to get the soap out to wash out those dirty mouths!

I am exactly the same Liz!

I also ask how these young girls dress the way they do and why kids are out late by themselves etc.

I definately see alot of my mother in me and I feel like I would have never been this way, wow, how you change!
