maybe 5 or 10 years. Anything earlier is too soon. We wamt to go to a tropical island and do it. Maybe go back to St. Lucia where we went on our HM

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
I'd really like to do it where we got engaged on our 5 year.
For 1 year, my hope is that I can drag DH to Vegas and get married on the bridge of the Star Trek Enterprise at the Star Trek Experience...his first choice of wedding location.

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
We are doing it for our 1 yr in vegas but Luke is saying we should do it for our 2yr in Bahamas and make a tradition of it :DWe were also talking about throwing a big wedding anniversary party at our reception site for our 25th or 30th anniversary. I figure people I will be ready for another big party by then. And oh yes, I will have my dress altered to something fashionably appropriate :D

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
That's great that a Man wants it to be tradition. I would do it every year if Len would go along.
I definitley want mine on the beach in either Hawaii or Bahamas or some other beautiful island maybe Aruba

Anyone know if Atlantis in the Bahamas does private ceremonies? That is where we are thinking of next year.

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
Stef, I'm pretty sure they do, but to be totally private you may have to be indoors. The only thing is if you're on the beach how you can keep people off?

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
Oh, i wouldnt care if people watched. I just mean private in the sense that it would just be Luke and I...no big ceremony or reception. I wonder if they would be willing to do that since there isnt much money in it for them...and how much they would charge. Their homepage doesnt say anything. If not there, im sure we will find somewhere. Maybe go to a Sandals or something.
Where is everyone else thinking of doing them?

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
WEll, I knew I was considering Sandals in the Bahamas, the wedding or vow renewal is FREE if you stay there.I would think Atlantis would offer the same deal. So many island resorts do it for free, with or w/o the reception, they even give you a free bo-k and cake

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
I am not really planning on renewing my vows... and if I decided too- it would have to be at least 25 years of marriage... we both meant them the first time and we carry them in our hearts, it's not something we have to say to each other year after year.

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
I think we may consider the years divisible by 5...but DH has already said that he wants to go to the Montauk Manor where we went for our mini-moon right after the wedding for our 5th anniversary...(being that we are no longer in NY...we can't do it every year)

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
Personally, I don't get the 'kitch' everyone makes out of vow renewals nowadays. No offense meant to anyone who is planning to do this....I just personally don't get it.
To me, to have a renewal so soon after the wedding - it's just about drawing out the whole wedding experience. JMO.I've always regarded this event as something a couple earned[I/] after 25 years or more of marriage - through years and years of hardship, ups and downs, good and bad, sickness and health, children, careers...etc, etc. I don't really understand what the rush is to renew something that isn't even old yet.

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
Claud: For us, its really just a fun thing. Sort of like how some people eat their wedding cake on their anniversary or treat themselves to a nice dinner, we are going to renew our vows. No other reason except to just celebrate that day with something special.Nothing wrong with not wanting to do it ... but what is wrong with renewing them everyday if you want? The meaning is not lost if you mean it everytime.
Edited to add: At least for us, our vow renewal is nothing at all like our wedding so I dont consider it a drawing out of the wedding at all. No guests, no invitations, no vendors, no stress (except finding something i like to wear hehehh)

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
My thought is that it means much more if you wait until a milestone anniversary before renewing our vows....so if we do this at all it will be for our 25th or 30th, if we're lucky

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
Stef, no need to explain -> I totally understand where you're coming from...I think it's cute you and Luke want to make it a tradition....I just think it's a 'trend' that makes alot of others do it right now. Before LIW, I'd never heard of couples doing this - unless they somehow made it through a particularly trying time, like an extramarital affair or serious health problem.
For Jeff and I, we do have silly little things that happen randomly during our everyday routines. Small, personal things that only mean something to the two of us, but symbolize a 'renewal' of sorts to our wedding vows. Whatever works for you, I guess

I have it all planned out - 5 years on the beach in St. Thomas surrounded by our family and friends while we are all on a cruise together.

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
A vow renewal is personal to the couple doing it. I think if you want to reaffirm your vows to each other every year, there is nothing wrong with it. Actually, I know a couple who goes to a different island every year and add their renewal as a part of their vacation and they said for the past 10 years it has helped to keep their marriage vibrant and exciting.HOwever, some people tend to want to go overboard like it's another wedding...that I don't agree with until you are at least 25 - 30 years in your marriage or have overcome HUGE obstacles.
Basically, as a couple you can do whatever floats your boat. Hubby and I will be doing that in a couple of years, but it will be just the two of us!

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
I'm kind of in the same camp as Claud - renewing the vows never even occurred to me as something to do soon. Until this board I'd never even heard of it being done before a major anniversary like 25 years or more. I read the topic to DH and his response was 'I didn't know they had an expiration date'Welcome New Vendors
