Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
Maybe at 20 years. Not too soon---not too far away.Renewing vows too soon, in my opinion, takes the real meaning out of them.
Maybe a little personal thing, just between the two of you at 5 or 10 year intervals would be nice and romantic. But a real renewal CEREMONY with guests and everything....I think that should wait until at least 20 years.

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
I think when most people renew their vows after 1 or 2 or 5 years, it's usually just the two of them. I'm with Stef on this one, no matter how many times I may renew my vows, it doesn't take away from it. I think each time I say to my hubby with all my heart how much I love him, it's a renewal.
When we do it at 5 years, it will be us on the beach on an island, in a romantic setting, and it will be very meaningful. If I could do it every year, I would.
I do agree though, if it's a big celebration I would wait until a milestone. I would probably do something like this at 25 years

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
Yea - i agree that throwing yourself a wedding part II should definitely be reserved for the major milestones. Not because you overcame obstacles (b/c there are couples married 1 year who have overcome more than couples married 50) and not because it loses its meaning to the couple (b/c if that has happened, you have bigger problems) but because you shouldnt drag your friends out to celebrate every little thing.I have a friend that within one year had their wedding (engagement party, shower, and wedding) followed quickly by a baby shower, baby naming ceremony, christening party and 1st birthday party. ***? I mean, give it a rest already - you do not need a party every week!

My husband and I agreed on our honeymoon to renew ours vows on our 5 year anniversary. It will be in Hawaii or somewhere in teh Caribbean. If I renew my vows now it would be meaningful to us because of everything that we been through since being married.

I think it's nice to take a trip for your anniversary, but I don't think we'll renew our vows... but if we do, it will definitely be in Vegas and Elvis will be the officiant... something fun.

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
I feel the same that Claud and couple others felt. It never even crossed my mind to do the renewal so early on in marriage and DH and I have never even touched on the subject. In my mind, I think upon 25+ years it may be right for us anything else we lose meaning to us. This is not meant to knock anyone doing it because I believe in what ever works for ya..to me-I am more surprised to see how many people find it important to renew sooner.

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
I think renewing gives the couple a new beginning to keep on keeping on. I love the idea of renewing the vows, I think renewing says, I would marry you all over again. Whether its in a romantic circle with friends or just the 2 of you. Whatever makes the couple happy.
I am all for it.

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
Shamma: The 'i will marry you all over again' thing is sort of a running joke in our house. I told Luke after he suggested Vegas that there is no turning back this time...hard to say it was a mistake if you say I do again!! hehehe

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
ditto- Sassyz75, claud2001, karenH, etc.I feel perhaps at the 25 year mark would be appropriate. If we were to do it, it would probably be done in conjunction with an anniversary party.
There is something about the word 'renew' that bothers me, kinda sounds like the old vows and the committments attached to them have expired.
I think I'll call it a 'Repeat Our Vows' ceremony

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
We hope to renew our vows this time in a RC church with our own RC priest. Probably within 5 or 10 years or maybe next year.

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
No one is guaranteed 25 yrs together or alive, so if renewing our vows make us happy, I say that is awesome. I want to celebrate our anniv every year in a great way, w/or w/o gifts. Just thankful that you have another year together is something to feel renewed about

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
At a local church they actually have a once a month Sunday mass where they call up all couples married that month and the couples renew their vows. I always thought that was beautiful. It is a simple, yet powerful way to tell one another that you would marry them all over again. Scott and I actually say our vows to one another sometimes just when we are driving someplace or hugging. With the divorce rate in our county, I think more couples need to reaffirm their marriage often. While I will not have a big party until 25 years or something like that, we will probably renew our vows at some time in the future with our children present. I think it is a great way to show them that our marriage is important to us.

Re: When do you all plan on renewing your vows?
I agree with Shamma - no one is guaranteed tomorrow much less 25 years!!! I think every year a couple is together should be celebrated. No one is saying go out and have another wedding, but I think it's great when couples reaffirm their committments - it's exciting, fun and a way of honoring your marriage.Oftentimes, I find that couples don't celebrate each other enough. I think it's great when you have that special day or moment where you let each other know how much you love them, how much you appreciate their hard work, how much you appreciate all their efforts etc - what better way of honoring that than doing a vow renewal! You can tell someone how much appreciate them at anytime, but it's more fun to to something romantic and different. My hubby says one of the many things he loves about me is my imagination and how I do things differently! I love surprising him.
Whomever wants to renew I think it's great! Celebrate as BIG or as small as you want!
