I know you'll think this is insane, but I'd like to put down $100,000 cash on a house. So far we have 30 saved, so maybe in another 3 years. That's our time frame.

Not crazy at all. Jimmy wants to have even more than this. We should be good to go in about 3-4 yrs

Unless you steal all my money in the mean time. Then it might be a little longer

We rent from my parents very cheaply in our own apartment. We want to stay here for as long as we can to save money but hopefully we will be in our home and out of NY in 3 years.

I put down 3-4 years but I would hope it would be more in the 2 year mark..but than again I just don't know how things are going to turn out!

definetly not now...times are just tough. we need to save and get ourselves in a good place....hopefully in a few years. but i'm happy where we are now i don't mind renting while we're young

dh and i have been looking on and off since fall 2007. dh was laid off so when he hopefully gets a steady permanent job we will start to look again so i said 1 to 2 years. hopefully we can save more and pay down some good debt.

we plan on buying a house as soon as freakin' possible. lol. Right now we're living in Colorado, but we have no desire to stay here so it would be foolish to buy a house right now. As soon as we get to where we actually want to STAY and raise our future children (closer to my family in NY), then we'll buy. We don't want to rent at all once we start our family. I hope things work out that way.

We plan to buy in prob 3-4 years maybe a little sooner. We are going to be moving to D.C. this summer and renting, until we are ready to buy. We will prob be buying in northern VA. I think it makes sense we will have some more time to save up, and wait for the market to even out. We won't rent anything less than a 2BR so if we want to start a family we can stay in the city for awhile without a problem.

Thanks, I was just wondering. It seems like I'm going to be renting for a long time. Especially if we are going to have to put a minimum of 20% down.

We are going to buy something this year for sure. We plan on buying something in the winter. I would have loved to buy something immediatley after the wedding but DH had about 18K owed to credit cards It set us back a little.
I thought it was best to get rid of that rather than have it hang over heads for years to come.

I actually dont think I would have minded waiting longer but we lived together first. Its been almost 4 years in an apartment. I am ready to get out of there. It feels like an eternity now

Definitely not for a few years. We have a nice apt in a very good neighborhood so we plan to be here for at least 1 kid. A second kid wouldnt fit. lol.

Hey! We saved for 3 years. There are some programs out there that will still allow you to put 3.5% down on a house. FHA loans. We arent doing this but if you have good credit, I would see what your options are! Sometimes if you find a house thats really priced right your mortgage will be less than your rent or maybe a few hundred more. In the end it works out because It gets written off at the end of the year! I will talk to you more about this...when I see ya!

I chose 1-3 years, but hope its not that long. We are looking every Sunday at open houses and once a week. We're looking in Brooklyn, and if we can ever find anything we like that we can afford, we hope to buy soon. We are looking to buy a condo though - We count that as a house - Its crazy - a condo in Park Slope is the same price as a house in LI or NJ. You have to be a millionaire to buy a house here.
Heather- I don't think you are crazy about wanting to put that much down. Its important to make sure that your monthly payments aren't insane.

thankfully we bought one before the wedding! We are saving now..so that hopefully in about 3 years we can buy another (bigger house) and use our current one as income property!
