So DH and I just had our first fight (6 weeks in) over whether or now and when to see his family for the holidays.
My in-laws happen to live in Montana so I know I may be unusual here, but just wondering how many of you are having similar strife.
(btw -- we are spending Xmas eve with my family and flying out West Xmas morning -- ughhhhh all day Xmas on a plane and in airports!!!)

Well this year it is my family (on Long Island)...we will probably alternate (DH's family is in Southern Virginia) but it will be so hard not to be home for the Christmas...
For Thanksgiving, both of our parents are coming to us (we live outside DC). I thought that was great at first but it actually have been more stressful with preparing our house, the huge meal, and trying to start our own traditions when both families are used to their own!

we are driving up to Rochester to spend Thansgiving with my parents, so for Christmas we will be staying here and maybe my parents will come if the weather is not that bad...

Our parents only live one town away so we are going to both. We used to do one holiday at each & alternate, but now that we are married my lovely MIL gives dh the guilt trip and he and he give in every time. So, now we go both.

my DH's family lives in OH and he already told his mom that we're not going there for X-mas. that was fine with me
so we'll spend it w/mine only.

My mom is having Thanksgiving, but my in laws are coming, so that works out well. For Christmas we usually go over my sisters around noon (she lives next door) and then we go to my IL's around 4. I'm hoping that since my parents have invited them to many holidays that they will return the gesture and invite my family over for Christmas. But you never know with them, they're kind of weird about stuff like that. Especially since my BIL is married and they don't like his in laws. I don't know if they would feel alright about inviting my parents and not hers. We'll see what happens.

I'm going to my Father-In-Laws for dinner and my Aunt's for dessert and cocktails!! He usually works on Thanksgiving - but his days off coincided with Thanksgiving this year - so his family it is!! Next year, I'll go to the in-laws for a bit and then ihang out with my family!
CHRISTmas Eve which is my Mom's birthday will be spent with her. I'm making dinner.
CHRISTmas morning will be spent with my family. CHRISTmas evening will be with his family.
We're going to split it down the middle.

i hear ya!! we're having a tough time with it, too.... his parents live about 20 minutes from us, mine live about 2 hours away.... the rest of his family lives out in PA, about 5 hours from our house, so thats where they do all the holidays.....we didn't wnat to alternate holidays ( i'm not ready to give up seeing my parents on a holiday) SOO... we're gonna be spending all weekend in the car... we're driving later this afternoon 5 hours out to PA, staying there tomorrow- THEN on friday, we're driving 4 hours to my parents house so i can see them- THEN saturday we're driving 2 hours from my parents house back to our house.... total of 11 hours in the car- all with the dog!!! SOO not looking forward to this......

This year we are doing Thanksgiving with his family. We sort of try to alternate holidays/years but there really isn't too much rhyme or reason to our methods of determining who we spend the holidays with.

This year we're spending Thanksgiving at my parents. My parents invited MIL to come for Thanksgiving, but we're still not sure if she's coming. She'll decide at the last minute if she wants to come. FIL invited us over to his house on Friday for a day after Thanksgiving meal. DH's parents divorced 1 1/2 years ago and his family hasn't done anything for Thanksgiving for the past few years (except this year). I'm not sure what we'll do about future Thanksgivings. I guess we'll alternate if his family makes Thanksgiving plans. Since I'm Jewish and Dh isn't, there are no Christmas issues. We spend Christmas Eve at his grandmother's house and then Christmas day at his father's house.

My parents are hosting thanksgiving and his parents and his brother are coming to my parents house. We are going to host and have everyone over at our place on Friday.

We split the day. But did get into a tiff about it. He felt that we didn't spend enough time with his family. It's tough. I decided to do christmas this year so that we don't have to deal with this. We'll have everyone over (that should be interesting)!!

We celebrated our Thanksgiving with both our families it was one big happy family gathering at out home. For Chritsmas which is my birthday DH and I will be spending at the Green Brier hotel in Virginia (our little getwaway)

DH's mother lives in Puerto Rico, and his one brother and his family live in Tampa, Florida. My entire family is here in New York and there are alot of us! My mother and father host Thanksgiving every year and DH and I do Christmas day. We've been doing it that way for the past 6 years.

dh has a very small family. his brother doesn't do much. most of the time we go to my aunt for thanksgiving and dh parents came this yr. i'll be cooking for hanukkah(making a brisket for the first time) for dh parents
