hi ladies! i just came up with an idea to throw dh a surprise texas hold 'em birthday party! I bought a poker table top from a website and now I need chips. anyone know where I can buy some, and how many? I think they come in different packs of different amounts, I have no clue.

You can get them from pretty much anywhere from Target to 7-11. As for how many, can't help you there - sorry. I just know where to get them because I've picked them up for DH.

Also, did you want to get the ones that are like the ones they use in casinos (made from clay, and more expensive) or the plastic ones (less costly)?

Approx 6 people will probably be playing; do you know how much each kind are? i'd buy the clay ones if they arent astronomical thanks

For approx 6 people playing, DH suggested around 250 chips.
A set of 500 makes a nice gift for him, he can use it in the future to play with more people.
This set has 650 chips, and some nice extras too. Its on sale for $39.99 ... regular price is $149.99!
Also, DH loves the plastic playing cards ... they're virtually indestructible ... and can even be washed. The poker sets usually come with cards, so you don't NEED to buy these ... but if he's into cards he'll appreciate having them.
All this stuff can definitely be considered part of your gift to him.

thank dh for me...i just put the order in, should arrive next week to my folk's house (we'll be away anyway). maybe i'll try to get into the game again? the first and last time i tried I absolutely hated it.
