When you are giving a gift or card from the both of you, does one of you sign both names, or do you sign your name and he signs his?
I'm fine with writing both our names, but when Al's filling out a card, he always wants me to sign it myself.
It seems to be a thing in his family. Like its more special if signed individually. I don't get it.

I sign all cards with both names. Patrick claims his handwriting is illegible.

Re: which do you do?
I sign both names. Maybe it's just me, but I think it's strange to each sign your name. I received a TY like that and couldn't help but think it was odd!!

exactly Teri! thats how I feel. Its not a big deal since 99% of the time, I'm signing the cards anyway (and I write both names). I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.

Lisa - Doesn't it remind you of when you were a child?! When your mom or dad lets you sign something?! LOL

Re: which do you do?
it does strike me as childish - I think thats what always bothered me about it but I couldn't quite figure it out.
I wonder if I should show Al this thread.

Re: which do you do?
I usually fill out the cards and sign both of our names. I was thinking the came thing about each signing your own name - that we did that as kids:)

Re: which do you do?
He signs his own name. I don't think it's odd looking to get a card signed like that either. I think it shows that the other person took a moment to write their own name across it. The only time one of us signs both our names is if we pick up a card separately on the way somewhere and we're not together.

Re: which do you do?
Whoever buys it signs it in our house, but cards that come from my brother & his wife come signed individually. They each write their own message ....
Kind of reminds me of a birthday card passed around at work where everyone signs & writes their own names.

I think it's nice if each person signed their own name, but in our house it's whoever writes the card signs both names ... which is usually me!!!

Re: which do you do?
We each sign our own name. If it were up to me, one of us would just sign both, but DH insists that it is more special to each sign our names!

Re: which do you do?
I definitely do not think it looks childish or weird to have a person sign their own name to a card. Personally, I believe it shows the person to whom you are sending the card that their occasion/birthday/thank you/whatever was equally important and acknowledged by both of us.
There are the rare times when I do the signing for both of us, but that's usually b/c I have more time (being a SAHM), and if I want to drop something at the post office while I'm out, I can't always wait for DH to be home from work to sign.
But, whenever I sign both our names, I often feel like the receipient of the card will wonder, 'Does Jeff even know that he sent me a card?' It's very impersonal, IMO.
