Which would you prefer? Party or trip?
So I am starting to plan a 30th for hubby and the prices I am getting are Ok but it will be expensive.I am looking at about $3500 to pull off the party. Now that seems like a lot of money for a 4 hour birthday party.
So now I am thinking I can just take him away for a week with the money.
Which would you prefer? The party or the trip?
Not sure where the trip would be but I am thinking Disney or something fun like that.
Thoughts?

Re: Which would you prefer? Party or trip?
I would go for the trip. DH LOVES going away and would rather do that for a week (or even just a few days) then have a big party.

For that much $$ I'd definitely do a trip - anywhere!

TRIP!
Did you learn nothing from your wedding?
Spending oodles of money on a party that goes too fast? The honeymoon is always more worth it.

I think it depends on the type of person. I would definitely prefer a party for my 30th. I think its one of those milestone birthdays that is great when remembered with lots of people celebrating. Vacations are wonderful but if he is anything like me - he likes to pick and choose where his long vacations are going to be and takes them no matter what the occassion.

I would do a less expensive party - have it at home with your close friends and family. Just a gathering to toast the birthday boy. And then I'd go on vacation!

I like Lisa's idea...definitely for that money...trip...unless money is no object...
I am closing in on that 'milestone' in 2 months...and once you get close....I don't have that feeling of wanting to celebrate it like I used to...

Re: Which would you prefer? Party or trip?
I would go for the trip. My husband turned 30 a few months after our wedding and I didn't want people to feel obligated to buy us more gifts...so I planned a mini-trip and he loved it. We had a great time.

Re: Which would you prefer? Party or trip?
I would love having a 30th b-day party to celebrate with my friends and family but if the price tag is $3,500 - I would much rather the trip. For me and DH's 30th we both gave each other surprise parties. I wound up renting the penthouse suite of the Mayflower hotel in NYC. View of NYC and the Park - really nice...It had a dining room, living room, small kitchen, bedroom and a terrace that wrapped halfway around the hotel. I cooked myself and bought drinks and invited about 30 people. No time limits and DH and I got to spend the night in the city. (not sure if you are suppose to have parties there but we had no problems and a friend who recommended tha place had been there for a party).
I didn't want a party since my 30th was less than 2 months after my wedding but DH surprised me as well. He rented a house in the Poconos for the weekend and invited about 30 of our friends. It was a 4 bedroom house with hot tub, pool table, 2 living rooms and about 4 bedrooms. Some friends came for the whole weekend and some came for just one night. DH bought a bunch of food and cooked or bbq'ed and we had so much fun. All of my friends were generous and also brought treats and drink and stuff. It was nice being away with my friends - something many of us don't get to do as we have started to grow up.
So I guess for both of ours we got a party and a weekend getaway....both cost much less than $3500.

Re: Which would you prefer? Party or trip?
I am going to go against the majority and say party!! My DH is such a family oriented person...I threw him a surprise 30th and he loved it!! He still talks about it and loves that his whole family came to celebrate withhim!!
