I only have a two bedroom condo, which is not that big...and I cant keep up with it. Work, and classes are keeping me from cleaning...like serious cleaning! I feel like Dh and I spend the whole weeking trying to catch up. Is it really expensive to hire a cleaning service? I just want someone to come every other week or so.... I cant imagine what I will be like if we ever get a house!

my parents used to pay someone $50 a week to clean their whole house once a week...and it was a big house. but she wasnt' with a service, and that was a few years ago.... i also used to get $50 to clean their house

Ugh. I hear you on the 2br that's tough to keep clean! It's SO hard. I wish we had some extra cash now for that, it would be worth it.
But somehow I think it might be easier in a house. We really LIVE in every room, you know what I mean? Our second BR is a home office and we do a lot of work from home, so we use all the rooms a lot. And we don't have a lot of storage. I know that when we have a house we are going to be very careful when we plan how to store things!

It took a while to find one that didn't cost $200! We have someone that comes in 2x/month. Charges $60. We have a 4 bd/2bath house..she is a G*dsend, but I don't think she is taking on new clients now.

LOL I was just talking to my DH about this! Seriously I spend the whole weekend (at least one full day) doing laundry and cleaning the condo. He vacuums, I do the rest. I hate that a full day of my weekend is devoted to this, and I can't imagine what we'll do in the fall when I am taking classes every weekend. Anyway, let me know if you find one under $100! That would totally be worth it.

I think it is totally worth the money. I am using Merry Maids which is a company. It is a little more than hiring an independent person. But at least they are insured and they send two people, so they get the house done faster. You definitely don't need someone every week.

I have someone come every other week. She charges me $40 for my apartment (bedroom, den, living room, kitchen, bathroom, outside hallway, stove inside & out, inside of refridgerator). She does all the heavy scrubbing, making everything shine & sparkle and she does ALL of the laundry.
So every other week I just have to do light cleaning (bathroom, change sheets, vacuum, stove) and the laundry.
DH wanted to get her every week so that I didn't have to clean on the off weeks but I've developed a better plan of attack. Instead of spending the entire Saturday or Sunday cleaning I will do a load or two of laundry on Wed & Thurs. I'll also clean the bathroom on Thursday. Friday I'll change the sheets and vacuum and wipe down the kitchen. And Saturday morning I'll do the kitchen floors and wood floors and whatever else I missed.
I don't go crazy scrubbing & dusting though anymore. Every other week deep cleaning is a-ok with me.

Wow, those prices are great! The person we use charges $18/hour (but we're in Manhattan, so maybe there is price inflation - if anyone knows someone good and less expensive in the city, please let me know!) - but she does a fantastic job.

My cleaning girl is wonderful -- she loves her job and takes such great pride in doing it well. She charges us $60/week, and we have: 3 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, Lg. dining, living, kitchen, den, and a home office. Plus we have a big hairy dog so there is always lots of dog hair around. She is really great -- and I have had a few different people. She is definitely the best. She lives in Wyndanch but travels to Pt. Washington I know, and comes to me in Wantagh no problem.
Only drawback - her English is almost non-existant. Not a problem if you speak Spanish tho.
