Why do I have to send my Original Marriage Cert in to change my passport??

Is anyone else having an issue with this?? I only have one original!!!

Yes, I had to do this. I went down to town hall and paid for a few more copies of originals, I think they are ten dollars each and then we went right next door and there was the passport servicing center and I am waiting for the ammended passport to come back, it should be here any day now. I went to Town hall in Hempstead. This is where we got our license from.

I just did this. I sent it all to the Charleston Passport Center on August 16th. Once they receive it, they have 20 business days to process it, although you can call and ask them to expedite if you plan a trip. I just got mine back today.

I did this. They will not lose it, they sent back the original, it took about a month.

We got a certified copy (make sure it is certified) and I sent that to the passport center with my passport.

DH thankfully was working nights so he got the copy for me during the day.

ETA: it is free to get the passport amended w/ you new last name. it is $60 to expedite it. I got a money order. Make sure you send it to the right passport center - the address is on the information sheet that goes along with the form.
