that when girls ask for dress cleaning/preservatoin advice, no one really gives any? It's frustrating that this question gets asked repeatedly and beyond 'wedclean' we get no real answer....and many of us are NOT comfortable shipping our dresses off...I know I'm not...I used to do gown preservation, and while we were EXTREMELY careful, I know that mistakes can happen and therefore I just could never ship my dress off.
Why do girls not feel the need to share this info???

Re: why is it...
Sorry, I had mine done in MD where I live. But I will say that I did ship it to the place in MD, since my dress was in NY after the wedding. I chose the place in MD because they allowed me to come in and look at the cleaned dress before they boxed it up. So I know it was my dress, and it was in great condition. So for me, shipping the dress was fine. Are you worried about it getting lost, or damaged?

Re: why is it...
I used a local cleaners and she is charging me $100 to clean and preserve it. Its taking her about a month to clean it, which it should actually be ready soon. She's going to let me go inspect it first before they actually preserve it.

Re: why is it...
I was thinking of getting mine clean and then using it for a babies crib, has anyone done that?

well, I haven't been able to give any advice because my dress is bustled, unclean, in its original bag, hanging on the outside of my closet in parents house -exactly where its been since the day after the wedding.

Re: why is it...
Used Bridal Suite in Huntington, on Route 110. I dropped it off right after the wedding (April) and got it back late September. They wait until they have a few dresses before they send them out to be preserved.

I wish I could help, but I didn't have my dress preserved and I just brought it to my neighborhood dry cleaner. Also, it wasn't big or beaded, so not as likely to be accidentally destroyed. It seems, though, like a lot of brides who post on the newlywed board haven't gotten around to preserving their dresses yet. Maybe you'd have some luck asking on LIF?
