that when girls ask for dress cleaning/preservatoin advice, no one really gives any? It's frustrating that this question gets asked repeatedly and beyond 'wedclean' we get no real answer....and many of us are NOT comfortable shipping our dresses off...I know I'm not...I used to do gown preservation, and while we were EXTREMELY careful, I know that mistakes can happen and therefore I just could never ship my dress off.
Why do girls not feel the need to share this info???

Re: why is it...
I wish I could help, but I didn't have my dress preserved and I just brought it to my neighborhood dry cleaner. Also, it wasn't big or beaded, so not as likely to be accidentally destroyed. It seems, though, like a lot of brides who post on the newlywed board haven't gotten around to preserving their dresses yet. Maybe you'd have some luck asking on LIF?

Well I used wedclean so what else can I say? They have insurance, nothing happened to my dress, if not, ANY cleaner can do this.

Re: why is it...
I'd love to tell you all but when I brought my dress to the dry cleaner I've known and respected for years, I got it back two weeks later because they're afraid to do it.
So my dress is uncleaned and unpreserved still.

This is not true. My gown has TONS of beading on it and they were afraid to even attempt to clean it.

I live in Texas so my choice of a dry cleaner wouldn't work for you.

Re: why is it...
sorry i can't help cheryl, but i used wedclean. i haven't gotten my dress back yet, but i took out insurance and checked the BBB. no negatives for all the years they've been in business, so i figure they're ok.

Re: why is it...
I used wedclean after getting frustrated trying to find a place. I've been to so many dry cleaners that have wedding dresses laying around on dusty tables, waiting to be cleaned. That bothers me! I know that it may have happened at wedclean also, but at least I did not have to see it. Also, I was comfortable with a place that focuses on doing wedding gowns.
They supplied the box for me to ship it. I wish I had a local place to recommend. I bought insurance and crossed my fingers. It did work out fine. My friend recently tried to find a place and also ended up with wedclean.

Re: why is it...
i havent had mine done yet.
my friend had hers done and her local dry cleaner ruined it! it was some sort of silk and was pricey, and it is ruined. it was shiny on her wedding day and now it is flat looking. granted she wont wear it again, but she wanted it preserved. i think she is taking them to small claims court b/c the dress was $$$$.

Maybe because many are alot like me and have to do anything about it! Mine is still haning in my closet almost a year later!
