wondering how I let it get this bad... super long

wondering how I let it get this bad... super long

I don't even know what to do....Like 6 years ago I lost a bunch of weight (35lbs). It came off really easily and I kept it off for several years. When my stepdad got sick the stress slowly made it come back and it got even worse after I got married. I weighed myself two weeks ago and I am 2 lbs less than the heaviest I have ever been. So basically all that work means nothing.

I have been watching what I eat the past week and a half. I cut out almost all of my sugar intake and I eat at least two types of vegetables at every meal (versus NONE lately). I cut out all soda and sports drinks (even diet - this in itself is huge because I used to drink FOUR bottles of gatorade a day! Doing this alone is like a savings of 500 calories a day ) I only eat whole wheat bread/pasta and have eaten leaner meats. I weighed myself now and I only lost a pound. My SIL and DH are doing basically the same thing and they are losing tons of weight. My dh lost 13 lbs in less than two weeks!!! I have been working like a dog lately so going to the gym has been nearly impossible but I at least try to walk a mile every day during my lunch break. I am allergic to most nuts and fruit and raw vegetables so it is hard for me to find snacks during the day but I usually have low fat cheese or wheat crackers. I am at a loss here... I was a girl who would eat fast food 4-5 times a WEEK and never cooked at home and I am trying to do the right things and it is not working. My SIL says it will all come off before I know it but I usually lose weight so easily so this is very frustrating. I am going to try to start walking at night too because that is how I lost all of the weight last time but sometimes I am at work 12 hours a day and by the time I cook and stuff I don't want to go back out (usually 9pm or so when all is said and done).

I also feel SO much pressure because I wanted to TTC at the end of the summer but I can't until I lose at least half of this weight gain. The idea of adding baby weight to the nasty blob I have become makes me sick.. I don't want to put my life on hold any longer but I really don't know what to do... I look in the mirror and I hate myself...

If you made it this far thanks for reading. I don't think I can really do anything different but it felt good to get it off my chest.

Nikki I'm so sorry you are feeling so defeated, I can totally relate. I don't have any words of wisdom for you right now, just wanted you to know that I read and that I'm sorry you aren't feeling at your best right now.

I am sure the other girls will have more constructive ideas for you ...

ITA here.

I will offer up some advice. Here are some things I learned. Eating whole grain pasta/bread is a great step and while it is better than white pastas etc it is still high in calorie/carbohydrates. I am NOT advocating a low carb diet or cutting out carbs but i am suggesting that monitoring just how much of those grains you are getting is a good idea.

The key in my mind to any diet comes down to 2 things:
Planning ahead and setting realistic goals.

Make ALL of you rmeals the day before you will eat them at least. I also track my caloric intake which helps me. I was eating all healthy foods but was having way more than I was supposed to and gained a ton of weight. I started working with a nutritionist who told me what I am supposed to have each day. I stuck to it and lost the weight. I now am trying to build muscle so am eating in a slight surplus. Ugh lol.

Try to have a protein with every meal. Allow yourself to have a 'cheat meal' each week. Not a cheat day, or 3 days...a cheat MEAL! It helps for sure.

Be patient with yourself. The weight didnt creep back on over night so you can't expect it to go away that fast. Losing a pound a week is a GREAT start and a very health pace! Hang in there and FM me anytime...i love nutrition and fitness and would be willing to help however possible!

for me it was usually VERY hard to lose weight, but I did lose around 30lbs in the last yr and a half. I did it by minimizing my portions (I used to eat a lot and in big meals), by walking - I walk every day as I use my commute to walk fast, instead of taking the train I walk; I also at the beginning would eat steamed veggies and lean grilled chicken.

I know all about looking in the mirror and hating the image looking back at me. most important is not let that be the definition of u, to get over that and try to love urself no matter how much u weigh. the weight will come off by being very dedicated to a better life style but loving urself is the most important part of that. until u learn to accept urself nothing will happen.
ppl dont even realize how important the good attitude is for weight loss.

we're here for ya!

it is definitely hard. I lost 24 lbs before the wedding by doing weight watchers and have already put like 10 on since the wedding. I feel gross and like so upset that I worked so hard to lose weight and now I let myself gain so much back so quickly. I am finding it really hard to get motivated again.

dont beat yourself up though. you are definitely not alone. Once you are ready to really get motivated and stick to a diet I am sure you will lose that weight.

I think you are being very hard on yourself. It has only been a week and a half. It takes time to see the results of lifestyle changes. Keep up with the dietary changes and try to increase your activity level. Try weight training in addition to aerobic exercise. You can purchase hand weights at target or a local sports store and use them at home. There are lots of work outs you can do at home. Take a look at the women's health magazine website for some ideas. As for TTC there is no reason you can not try to get pregnant at your current weight most doctors will just advise you not to gain much weight during your pregnancy.

Thank you girls so much.. Your kind words meant a lot! I went out for a walk and it was the most intense workout I have had in a long time, even more so than when I was doing the P90X! I went to the train station and was running up and down the stairs like I was Rocky...

In reply to some of the posts... I have been trying to limit my carbs and definitely don't eat more than one serving at a time. If I have brown rice at lunch, I will just eat like grilled chicken and salad for dinner and vice versa. Never two times a day.

I am also scared to get pregnant with this weight because being overweight runs in my family big time. I am probably one of the thinnest people in my family (except for my dad) even with my extra weight. My mom gained over 60lbs with both of her pregnancies and that is also a trend that runs in our family. If I gained even half that with my extra weight it would be a disaster. I just wouldn't want to put myself in a situation where I am super stressed about my weight during my pregnancy. Hopefully if I can get out an walk even like 3 times a week at night it will help move this process along!

I have a newlywed 30
things happen don't sweat it

I am doing this new thing with my food so I can make slow changes:

first 2 weeks - water only to drink, no soda, juice - dont' change anything else

second 2 weeks - no sweets, just fruit for sweets, and no added sugar - don't change anything else

2 weeks after that - no refinded carbs

I am only on the no sweets portion so I will let you know how I do with this but I know this on woman lost about 60 lbs doing that so I am gonna try...

weight loss protocol

both DH & I just read this book. The guy who wrote it is not the one who made up the protocol, but just someone who is relaying the information from a Dr. in the 1960's.

This book is an EYE opener! WOW. It made both DH & I realize that there is a reason that 'diets' dont really work. There is a reason that the diet industry in a mutli-billion dollar industry. There is a reason that weight loss programs like WW, Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem do not really work - b/c once you stop them - 90% of the people gain the weight right back.

There are four phases in the protocol. DH & I just started phase 2 this past weekend and DH is down a little over 11 lbs, and I am now down 7.4 lbs and have finally broken the below 150 mark on the scale since the holidays. I was 129 the day I got married & I think due to stress & depression of losing my job right before our wedding, the embarassment of having to file for unemployment for the 1st time ever in my life b/c I could not find a job & the overall depression I still feel not being to get A job - (even working at the local supermarket- is apparently out of my reach) - and I had put on 27 lbs from like Sept up to Jan & have been stuck there pretty much, lost a few w/ exercise - but got stuck & plateau'd again....so frustrating & depressing considering I had basically cut out all starches, was only drinking water or crystal light & had a cheat meal once a week.

This book talks about why even 'diet' & 'light' foods can make you fat - how aspertame, nutrisweet & splenda are actually contributors to making people fat. (DH & I now only use Stevia - a natural unprocessed form of sugar), how restaurants & fast food places actually add stuff to their food to make you crave more. - It is INSANE what the food industry had done - even with meats - all the hormones & crap added to the food.

I just think it's a really good read for anyone who is in yours & my type of situation. (As DH & I are TTC & I dont want all this extra weight either on top of pregnancy weight).

I totally feel your pain! the last few weeks ive been soo good during the week walking, everyday, excersising at night, eating healthy, lost like 3 pounds in 1 week i was like whoo hoo wedding body here i come! then one saturday i go to a party, and i eat a bunch of c r a p. and bam! i gain 4lbs??!?! what? for one day? i feel the same way, i wanna eventually have a baby sometime in the future, but i refused to get preggo at the weight im at now! im already way higher than i would like to be, and to add 30-40lbs to that i would die!!

i would def say try walking/running at night too! thats what ives started... i walk at lunch and do taebo at night ( i know it sounds lame, but i still sware by taebo!! lol)

it will come off, but because its not coming off fast enough is what is annoying! just keep at it, and push yourself a little harder and you will see results...

honestly the whole having a baby is my motivation!! i want that more than anything so if i gotta be skinny and in shape to do it, i will do it!!!

good luck! dont give up!

Are you drinking a lot of water? I've found that helps. I've been trying to lose my pooch, not really lose weight, but I had a very carb heavy diet, and I've switched to eating oatmeal for breakfast, bringing a salad at least 3 days a week for lunch and only having a sandwich 2 times, cutting down the amount of saltines I have at lunch to 5 from 7 if I have them at all, and having whole grains when I do have pasta and bread. Plus walking A LOT. DH and I try to walk 2-3 times a week, at least 3 miles, some routes are 4 miles, with lots of hills and inclines and declines in our neighborhood. I've definitely noticed a difference, still have a bit to go, but it's helped a lot.

I totally understand. I am at my heaviest now and its making me so upset. I gained the weight back that I lost for the wedding. Plus I have put on weight over the years. I stayed at my parents house this past weekend and saw a picture of myself from college and I almost cried because I realized how much I have gained since then

Nikki don't feel down mama!!! Pleeease stay strong, because everyone is different. I gained 20 lbs and was heavier than I had ever been. I did just what you are doing, changed my eating habits completely, and only lost one lb or so over 2 weeks. It takes time for your body to adjust to the routine. Make sure you're drinking 64-100 oz of water a day to flush toxins. I will say that as soon as I added exercise to the diet, the weight started to come off. Stay strong with what you're doing! By counting calories alone (1200-1500 at most) you will be able to lose naturally. I promise you will start to see results soon. Love you mama!!!!!
