work related q...what would you do?

I selected a title and asked my editor to clarify the meaning, because it had two possible meanings.

She said for me to write it for both meanings, and explain that it had both.

I did that. Now, I just get an email (about a month later) asking for a rewrite because it's only supposed to be one of the meanings.

Do I mention that she is the one who told me to write it both ways? How do I say it without being rude?

say something like, im sorry, i misunderstood because you had originally told me that I could write it for both meanings. you're probably just going to have to suck it up and write it again anyway.

Yeah, I know I'm going to have to write it again. I just want to avoid having this happen in the future (I ask for clarification, get it, but then am told the opposite)

Thanks!

Whenever I wanna cover my asss like that, I forward them the e-mail with their original instructions so they can see where I got it from. Or I send an e-mail saying 'As per our phone conversation, blah blah blah. Yeah, I'll change it.'
