Would this bother you?

Would this bother you?

So, a few months ago, I left my job of 4 years. I left for a few reasons:

#1 - we moved south to RI and the commute to Boston was long with a baby (12 hour day with the commute)

#2 - I had been there 4 years BUSTING me A$$ without ever getting a promotion. I always got more WORK but never promoted. My boss said once 'I can give you a social promotion.' W T F is that?

#3 - when my FIL was dying, I asked for amended hours so I could pick up the baby from daycare & I was denied. (My MIL was picking her up b/c I was getting home after day care closed. But now SHE was commuting to Boston to see FIL in the ICU) I asked if I didn't take lunch, could I leave an hour early to get the baby. I was denied.

#4 - my boss was kind of a jerk. When my mother was in the hospital in NY, I asked for a day off to go see her, He said no. When I was pregnant & a girl came to work with the shingles, I asked to leave, they said no. When it was October & I had 12 vacation days left & asked if I could take a week off at Christmas, he said no. You get the idea....

So.... I quit. No biggie. My boss was shocked. he asked me to stay. He said I could come back anytime & how great I was, blah blah.

I have a new job & all is well. BUT I got a call this morning from a friend at my old job & she was FUMING. Not only did my replacement get to take off a week to go to the Super Bowl, and not only does she work amended hours so she can catch an early train home.... but.... she got promoted. After 5 months.

Now, I'm not saying the girl isn't talented or whatever, but honestly..... would you be mad? I feel quite slighted.

I'd be pissed for about a minute. Your not there anymore and you like your job now so it wouldn't do you any good to get worked up about it. But I definetly feel where your coming from.

It's like dating someone for 4 years and the NEXT girlfriend gets the ring!!

i'm be pissed inside, but you HAVE to let it go, or its going to eat at you. I came into the job i'm in now and get a crap load more then the past girls ever did, but i present it a lot differently then they ever did, so who knows why, but i'm sure theres a lot of details to it, and maybe you scared them enough to make them realize that employees do quite when their not happy, so maybe their just trying to keep her happy.

Either way, don't take it personally, jobs like that suck, and you've moved on. Yes its annoying but you can't think about it anymore or your just gonna be pissed all the time.

i would feel slighted too...BUT maybe they did this because they realize that's why u left and they dont want it happening again??? Also if she's new, they're probably trying to give her incentive...so maybe this will be her one & only promotion lol. STILL - u think when u told them u were leaving they'd off u ur job & a promotion to keep u be mad for the day....but after today let it go...u're happy now & probably get all the things u deserve!

...especially if he said he'd never get married!!! haha

Sometimes bosses realize stuff AFTER the fact...when i left my job i told my boss you might want to pay overtime to the graphic artists to keep them happy...cause i worked my a$$ off doing overtime w/o pay (yeah i was a suucker)...as soon as i left...PAID OVERTIME! Oh well...at least I helped someone else have a better work life...it stinks but there is nothing you can do so don't waste your time even getting angry...he's not worth it!

It's one of things that would bother me even though it shouldn't. It would be annoying since you worked so hard but you have to remember at this point you have moved. You realized what they were offering you was not the best for you and made a change for the better.

As for the new girl you don't know her salary or what terms she was hired under. As an outsider looking in you think she has it great but she is probably on some Boston chat forum complaining.

Your old boss learned with you that he could say no to your requests and you would still show up and do a great job. The new person may have set different ground rules for herself (she doesn't ask for days off she tells him when she won't be in) lastly your boss probably learned a lesson from you leaving and has grown to be more lenient in the hopes of not losing another good employee.

Just be happy you don't have a 2 hour drive tonight to get home

PS How is Ella feeling???

For about a minute, that's all.

You made the choice to leave for a better situation as you needed it to be for your life.
Not worth getting yourself upset over.
Focus your energy on that cutie, Ella.

I'd be a little pissed, but I agree with the prior person. Sounds like they learned their lesson with you about how not to handle the position...

Anyhow, sounds like you are better off with a shorter commute and a good job, so its probably not worth letting it really get to you.

What's the old line? The best revenge is living well...

I'd be pissed too. But maybe your ex-boss learned his lesson that if he treats his employees like cr@p, then they will quit. He's probably trying to make sure this new girl doesn't quit too.

I would be so pissed!! 4 years and your boss couldn't get a clue, 5 months after the new girl is there she gets promoted?? who knows, maybe she is a hard worker and deserves it, but sometimes the longer you're there, the more a boss thinks no matter what you'll just 'take it' b/c you're vested into the company and won't actually leave. I hope if anything your boss learned a lesson, but I would just be thinking it ***** you wasted your time w/ a company that has zero compassion, and you gained nothing from it. at least you can be happy you're out of there!
