would you ever replace your ring?

I'm thinking of replacing my center stone in a year or two. DH doesnt know but I had wanted something slightly bigger and its bothered me since we got engaged. I think when we have a little more money in a few years I'll upgrade but keep the old one too for memories.

OMG....I was just agonizing over this very thought the other day......but I was too embarrassed to start a thread so I'm soooo glad that you did.
I wouldn't want to 'replace' the stone...but I have very similar thoughts about replacing my ring.
I LOVE my ering....but wearing diamonds is just SO NOT ME.
I will always love my ering.....but would love something else, in its place? Something different?
I can't believe I'm admitting this and DH would probably be horrified if he was aware of these thoguhts although i think he might know b/c I rarely wear my ering.........
I would really love to have a SAPPHIRE ring some day................its so much more my style.

I don't wear my ering enough to think about replacing it, BUT if I did wear it, then I think I would upgrade in a couple of years. But I've already told him and he's cool with that. I wouldn't upgrade the band, which to me is the most important part.....just the stone.....

i will upgrade by ring eventually like prob. for our 10 year anniversary or so, and might even change the style even though DH is so against that lol but im completely content with it.

I would definitely replace it if I lost it, but I don't know if I would actually replace it for the heck of it. There is too much meaning behind this ring that is really important to me (much more than the size of the diamonds themselves).
Everytime I look at my ring, it reminds me of how much DH must have loved me to save money willingly for months to buy me a piece of jewelry that would solidify our relationship into something stronger.
I can see myself in the future wanting some kind of anniversary band that I will prob. wear instead of my e-ring and w-band, but for now I not only love my ring because it is beautiful but also because I know how much effort DH put into it.
(although this could just be my opinion cause I am still a newlywed... Ask me this same exact question in 3 years from now and my answer might be much different!)

Not in a million years. I adore my 3 carats.

I wouldnt unless it was a special anniversary.
Im sure I will get heat for this, but I feel like if you just randomly choose to change it b/c you want 'bigger' or 'better' its kind of selfish. I wouldnt ask DH to change my ring....regardless of the reason.

I figure if we're rich enough to 'upgrade' he can just buy me a brand new ring outright... But I would never call it my 'e-ring' because it would never replace this one, bigger or smaller...

Yea I agree -- I would never replace the setting but I'd upgrade the stone. The setting to me has more sentimental value to it than the stone.

I would replace the setting before I would replace the stone!

He spent the money on the stone than the setting!

One of the things DH liked when he got my ring from Fortunoff is that they have an upgrade policy. But, I LOVE the ring he gave me. And even if I'd like something bigger down the line, this is the ring that he chose for me and it has so much meaning, so I'd never upgrade it.

Weird, Matt got my ering at Fortunoffs too!! I totally agree though, I don't think I could part with it, even for a bigger diamond.

I think I would upgrade a bit, though I am in LOVE with the setting, so I don't think I would change tht. I am not sure what DH would think about that. He spent a lot of time/thought picking it out and a lot of $$$ on it and if I were to change I think it would upset him.

Nope, I love my rings just the way they are!! Plus they have sentimental value to me, I could never replace the ring DH proposed to me with. But if that's what you want to do then I see no problem with it, just as long as it doesn't hurt DH's feelings.
