WWYD?? Regarding a job

WWYD?? Regarding a job

You go to a job fair for OOS schools. One county that is there offered you a contract on the spot. It guarantees you a job for Sept.

You later find out that county is less desirable BUT it will be a full time job teaching (something that is soo hard to do on LI).

Take the job and suck it up or run fast?

Such decisions.....

How far a commute? I've heard that when you work in NYC public schools you look better to schools in Nassau because you have the city experience.

Its not in NY, this would be in MD.

We have no idea which school it would be, we just know the county.

I see. When do you have to give an answer? I would probably take it if it's been really difficult to find a job.

Finding a F/T PE job on LI is like finding a needle in a haystack. It doesnt help that LI is who you know, not what you know .

DH might have to just suck it up and take it. I mean we can always live in a nicer area.

I think we have a few months to decide.

I'd take it...a job is a job and then you can always look for somethig better and switch

Can DH keep looking until he has to absolutely neesd to give an answer. Wouldn't teaching jobs be coming up on LI this month and next month.

I say keep looking here (Nassau, Suffolk, NYC and all other downstate NY Counties). IIsn't job season for teachers' this mornth and next month?? If after that nothing turns up I would just take the job in MD.

I know we are thinking that too. We can always move after the first year if he's really unhappy.

When I got married I moved 10 min. from my house and it was so hard!! How the heck am I going to move to MD (or anywhere else)?!?

I would say sign it. My friend did this for city schools. She lives in Lake Ronkonkama and now has to drive to the Bronx. She was told the City and found out about two weeks before schools starts what PS it was. Since its in MD and you will move I would say take it. You can then make sure you live close. Good luck!

ETA: I live upstate now about 2.5 hours away. Its so hard at first but you make the best of it. I know have friends up here and love it! Good luck in whatever you decide!

It's such a hard situation to be in. Good luck to him.

DH will have tenure next year...Thank God . But for a while he was stressed out. If they didn't offer him tenure we would look into the option of OOS school's and the city. Becasue LI is sooo frustrating when it comes to looking for teaching jobs. His sister is a special ed teacher and she's been looking for something permanent out in Suffolk for the last 2 years. I told her she needs to broaden her search but she can't imagine a longer commute.
