This is really tough! I'm a pretty rigid person...so I tend to stick to the first made plans. I've had too many flaky people in my life bail on me at the last second because something better came along, and I've always prided myself on NOT being like that.
Of course, this is a really different situation...I'd probably go to the wedding. Would you be making the trip down there no questions asked if there wasn't the wedding? Like, would you possibly have not gone anyways because of money issues, not being able to afford another trip down there? I guess if there was any inkling that you might not have gone down anyways, I would stick with the wedding and first made plans. Chances are you'd still 'pay' less with a wedding gift than a trip for two to NC.
