X-Post from BHB...Has anyone had their cell phone or other means on during the wedding...

...in order to relay the ceremony to someone who couldn't be there? I'm so unbelievably sad that my grandmother most likely won't be at my wedding, and we're trying to find a way for her to be there at the same time with us, and are considering the various ways to do that. All we've come up with so far, within our monetary means and since we don't own a satelite truck (), is having a cell phone with us or the rabbi so that she can listen to the ceremony as it's happening.

Has anyone done this or something similar to it?

I haven't seen this done before but I don't see why it would not work...Hopefully Grandma will be able to make it if not she will be able to listen to the ceremony.

i think that's a sweet idea
or if you're having a videographer - stress that you need the video very quickly and go down and visit her and watch it with her

I would think a video would be the clearest way to hear and see it. She'd have to wait, but at least she'd get to see it. You can try a cell phone, but without passing it back and forth so you, your fh and the rabbi talk right into it each time I'd be afraid it wouldn't be clear enough.

Re: X-Post from BHB...Has anyone had their cell phone or other means on during the wedding...

My friends did this when they got married in Vegas. They had a couple of people leave cell phones on the podium where the minister was so that they could hear the ceremony. My friend who couldn't make it said she was able to hear everything.

Re: X-Post from BHB...Has anyone had their cell phone or other means on during the wedding...

Thanks for the input. The only reason I'm adamant about her being able to hear it as it's happening is because when we rescheduled our wedding, it was because that's when she was supposed to be up in NY visiting anyway, and we figured she shouldn't have to make two trips. So we rescheduled it around her schedule, and now she won't even be here to enjoy it!

My MIL held her cellphone during our ceremony for DH's grandparents. They heard every word, and still thank us every time we talk to them for letting them listen in.

Jann, I don't know if this is possible or not but what about setting up someone with a video camera that they can hook up to a wireless laptop that they can set up an internet feed for Grandma on the other end with a laptop. I don't know about your Grandma but mine doesn't know how to work a computer but maybe someone at the hospital or down in Fla, based on the situation might be willing to help.

Re: X-Post from BHB...Has anyone had their cell phone or other means on during the wedding...

Unfortunately, that would require a great amount of bandwidth to accomplish streaming video, and a great deal of money to make that happen so that it comes out right. We've thought of that, and maybe we'll see if there's any way we can accomplish it, but I doubt it. Grandma's pretty good with computers.
