Janice I feel for you, that is really terrible crap that you both have to deal with. It is so sad and petty that family can cause such grief, instead they should realize the important thing that your DH found a good person that makes him happy. It's unfortunate that these times-racism still exists.
I am blessed that my DH family are so good to me, they are Puerto Rican and I am Korean. My husband loves his mother and no one can cook Spanish food like his mother. He's right, I respect her so much and do not feel slighted at all because I love to cook and my husband is very happy with that. I have learned a lot and I bond with my Mother in law when I ask her how to make the best beans or pork shoulder etc..
