Learn italian! Easier said than done, I know!!

She may not be doing it intentionally. Sometimes bilingual people get used to talking to certain people in one language or the other regardless of whether or not they speak both languages.

For example, I almost always speak to my dad in Spanish, even though he understands English perfectly fine. Even if I'm on the phone and DH is in the room and we are talking about something that involves him. I don't do it to be rude, it's just what comes naturally.

Then, when I leave my dad a message on his machine, for some reason I only leave them in english (something about talking into a machine I guess)... which I never thought about, but might make his girlfriend feel weird especially since she doesn't speak english.

Maybe you could try calling her back when you know the message is about you (even if you have DH translate first) and pretend that he didn't. Then say something like - 'I know you left a message that has something to do with me but I couldn't understand the whole thing because it was in Italian - so what did you need?' After a few calls like this, she might get the hint and start leaving messages that are meant to include you in English.

Mine does the same thing. The WORST is when she leaves a message for DH on MY cell phone- and I can't understand one word of it.
