I'm such a smartass that I wanted to put my own stamp on it as well...

What is wrong with people?!?!?!

My MIL just got an invitation the other day.. the shower asked for all gifts to be wrapped up in clear paper. Why??? b/c her mother invited over 250 people to the shower and the bride wasnt going to have time to open all of those gifts so at least if it was in clear paper everyone could see what was bought!

huh? clear paper? what the hell is wrong with people? even though it's also tacky, she should have just requested that the gifts not be wrapped at all.

That's GREAT! Maybe they'll include their bank info on the wedding invitation so guests can just deposit their gifts directly!

I've been to a couple of showers(I think they were baby showers) where they did this. I never gave it that much thought.

i don't see anything wrong with this as long as the bride writes a normal thank you (why not try to help the bride who we all now has a ton of stuff to worry about - it's not like you're writing the message to yourself!)

oh, also, i think it is very VERY tacky what this post is actually about!

OMG! I think it's extremely tacky to have people address their own envelopes. I've actually never seen it done before. I worked 6 days a week for the 6 months before my wedding and I managed to get personalized, handwritten thank yous out with in a week.

Everyone is busy but they find the time to shop for a gift and attend a shower! A bride can certainly find the time to acknowledge them herself!

Sorry, but there is just no way. If I am wrapping the gift, it is going to be wrapped the way I want it, even if just to make a point. Who the heck invites 250 people toa shower anyway? Aren't they supposed to be for your closest family and friends? All of this stuff is WAY out of hand IMO.

Sorry, but there is just no way. If I am wrapping the gift, it is going to be wrapped the way I want it, even if just to make a point. Who the heck invites 250 people toa shower anyway? Aren't they supposed to be for your closest family and friends? All of this stuff is WAY out of hand IMO.

I could not agree more!!!!!! There is no way you have THAT many CLOSE family & friends!!!! It just looks gift greedy!!!

I went to a shower once where my TY card was pre printed....

I was amazed they actually put a stamp on the enevelope


Come on now...i wrote out al my TY's for my shower and wedding.......you don't have to say much.....

better yet, they could have each guest wear a name tag, w/ their name, address and the gift that they bought. all tags would be collected at the end and given to the bride.

OR

during the shower they could go around the room and have each guest introduce themselves, state their address and hold up the unwrapped gift they bought. i.e: 'hi, my name is ann, i live at 123 main street, anytown NY 12345 and i bought a toaster.' this could all be videotaped and then played back during the writing of theTY cards.

instead of bridal bingo, they could pass a TY card to each guest w/ a pre-printed envelope and have the guests find the person whose name is printed on the envelope and then have the 'card holder' write a 'heartfelt' thank you on behalf of the bride. of course the brides name would be 'stamped' on bottom of the card.

Although, those are some excellent ideas. Hmmmm...I bet within a few years, people will start putting them to use.

your just jealous that YOU did think about these ideas when you had your shower. come to think of it, i am kicking myself in the A S S as well.
