In Newsday today in one of the advice colums this 'filling out thank you card envelopes at the shower' thing came up and I thought the reply was great! Instead of filling out envelopes, an address book should be passed around so everyone can fill in their info for the bride!
Much less tacky!

Definitely like this idea!!
ETA: Yes, the fact that she could not find the time to thank people herself is a pretty pathetic excuse. My wedding thank yous will be extremely late, but at least they are sincere and written by me!!
And the clear paper thing is beyond ridiculous - what's the point of wrapping them at all??? In fact, why even have a shower -- why doesn't everyone just order online and have them shipped to her house so no one has to spend any money throwing a party???

I've never been a big fan of thank you cards. So I don't think it would matter to me if it were personal or not. I give a gift because I want that person to have it. I know how crazy busy these times are, so I don't think whether the ty card was personal or not would matter to me... (although i was up until 2am finishing mine last night).

I went to a shower once where they passed around blank envelopes and asked us to address our own thank you card.
I'm such a smartass that I wanted to put my own stamp on it as well...
I've gone to a bunch of showers that did this and I think it is so annoying!
ok- here'a tip for any future MOH's . If you want to help, combine tehse 2 tacky ideas, surprisingly, that makes it LESS tack! -using the shower guest list, pre addres envelopes or labels for the bride as a gift, but she should write the message!

I kind of agree. They sent a thank you, which is enough in my book.
If someone genuinely went above and beyond or travelled far to be there or put extra thought into the gift I'm usually moved enough to write something on the inside. But for the friends of DH who I never met before the wedding and didn't really talk to I felt that the nice card we designed with the poem we picked out printed on the inside and our signatures (I agree people should sign their own cards!!) is enough.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I felt like I wanted to get that off my chest. Don't blast me too hard...

At my cousins shower, her MOH put address labels, already printed, in her wishing well well with thank you cards and stamps. It was easy enough since she printed one set to send out the invites. I thought that was a helpful idea.
