I did change my name, but I totally hear you on how people just assume. We sent an announcement to our club (they have a monthly newsletter that has member announcements) and basically just told them we had gotten married, etc. We made no mention of whether or not I had changed my name...Well, lo and behold, the announcement came out and at the end it says, 'Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. John C****' I thought that was really presumptuous of them.

On the other side of the coin, I get really annoyed at my co-workers because they all insist on referring to me as 'Claire OldLastName-NewLastName'...I keep correcting people that I didn't hyphenate, but they can't seem to get it straight!

thats a pet peeve of mine, too. what i find even more annoying is when i give my last name, people ask what nationality is my husband. i have a long polish last name that i decided to keep, it is my name damn it!!!

I think that is just traditionally how it is, which is why when you walk out into your reception they say 'now presenting mr and mrs. (his last name). Don't worry about it. I remember when I was a kid I had a friend whose mom had a different last name than her. I just couldn't understand why.
