Re: UPDATE:Went....
Contract or not, I really do not think that this is legal. I wish I was an actual lawyer, but there are a few here, who I hope might be able to weigh in on this.

I honestly would talk to an atty. Im not sure they can do that. Know that is not my area of law at all but my gut instinct is that they might be wrong in telling you that.

what bothers me though- is that if i was due in April- I would get my six weeks no matter what...
but because I am due at the end of the school year, I get nothing? Even if i wasnt having problems, that isnt fair for anyone who gets pregnant in the summer...
ughh just dont get it.. and with all the other bs going on, im just not in the mood...

Crashing here but I'm pretty sure that is not legal. Please consult a lawyer
ETA: Why don't you post a question on LIF to either the pregnancy or parenting boards? Someone there may have some insight into this.

Oh and Jenny...Im pretty sure since you work in a catholic school your medical insurance doesnt cover BC......They dont want you to prevent pregnancy but they dont want to give you maternity leave......Yeah that makes alot of sense

Re: UPDATE:Went....
Jenny, I'm pretty sure this is true for city teachers as well. If you give birth too close to the end of the year you lose some of your summer pay because you didn't work the whole year. It super s u c k s but I don't think your principal has any control over the situation.

Nope and they also dont cover anything that comes from a place that does stem cell- so all my hormone replacements before the wedding were not paid for. That combined with the pill was around 280a month...
I called my moms lawyer and he basically said since it is a private school/no union- i can only take disability.... but then i would have to get the paper to state that after i have the baby i am allowed to 'go back to work' for july/aug (But no one is there for those months )

That really stinks!!! I would try to stay as long as your health allows you to. I know your job is important but you and your baby are #1 priority!!!

I don't really understand completely either but I think you would get the six weeks or whatever it is after the baby's born. My sister who's a teacher in NC did not get maternity leave before the baby was born - she had to go on disability too.

I'm wrong. After the baby is born you get to use days you have in your CAR as your 'maternity leave' - other than that, you do not get a paid maternity leave. You can also use that family medical leave thing but those days are also unpaid. So overall I guess it stinks to be a teacher having a baby.
