XPOST from LIF: bulldog help
we have a 6 y/o bulldog who used to sleep in our bedroom, but we have moved her across the hall into the office cause she kept snoring so loudly that it was keeping us up. we keep both doors cracked so we can hear her, but lately she's been a terror at night.now, besides the snoring, she rubs her butt on the carpet, rubs her back on the carpet (which makes her bump into the walls), shr runs down the stairs at crazy hours, etc... she never used to do this stuff in our bedroom, her only problem was the loud snoring. so now, every couple of hours, either me or my DH are up telling her to stop and it's making us exhausted.
we thought of putting her in her crate, but it's on the first floor (that's where she goes when we leave the house) and we don't want to have her on another floor.
any ideas on what we can do to make her stop and just sleep through the night (for us too!)??

I don't own a bulldog but I have heard that when a dog rubs their buts on the carpet it could be a sign of worms... so you might just want to have that checked just to be safe.... But she could also just be itchy... Darwin is always itchy and constantly rolls on his back on the carpets but he has skin allergies and takes an antihystamine for it... We tend to give it to him at night time because it knocks him out a little and he sleeps through the night.

our dog has terrible skin allergies too. she doesn't have worms, her anal glands get swollen, which makes her itchy and thats why she rubs her butt. my DH releases her anal glands about every other day to help her out - so gross! she takes zyrtec with her food everyday to help with the alleriges but it never makes her sleepy.

ugh our dog has bad anal glands. i have to take her every month to get them done
maybe try bringing her in the bathroom with you when you shower-the steam may help her.
have you tried takng her out for a long walk before she goes to sleep?

My sister has to do that with her dachshund too, she's not as brave as your DH though... she makes the vet do it...
Maybe just try to tire her out before bed time? When DH and I were both working Darwin would sleep all day and then be a nut at bedtime. Like running up and down the hallway like he was chasing something... barking at nothing... Eventually we just realized that we had to do something to tire him out before bed... now that he takes these meds we don't have to torture him as much with crazy long walks at 11pm and running around the house with him like lunatics before bedtime!!

yeah maybe we should take her for a walk to tire her out before bed. we both work during the day, so she's in her crate for a long period of time probably just sleeping all day. thanks for the suggestion!

Re: XPOST from LIF: bulldog help
Excellent suggestions. I highly recommend hitting the vet and checking for worms and for the anal gland. Bulldogs are a unique breed. I have a bully breed dog too (Circuit my boxer) and exercise is truly the key.Sorry I didn't see your post on LIF. I haven't been on there checking the Pets boards like I should. *I'm Kimberly from Best Friend's Dog Training in case you didn't know.

lol the vet showed DH how to do it so we wouldn't have to bring her in all the time. he offered to teach me but i said no! that's his job lol.
