yay! we won't have to live with my parents!

One of my dad's tenants is moving out, and he offered us the apartment!

We were originally planning on staying with my parents while we look for jobs and a place to live (in January, once we move back to NY). Now we can be on our own without shelling out a lot of $$!

Dad will rent us the apartment at a reduced rate - I think he'd let us stay there for free but I'd feel bad having him lose so much money on us.

The tenant was paying $750/month. What do you think is fair for us to pay? I know he's going to ask me. And though I want to pay as little as possible, I also want to be fair to him.

The apartment is in a house my parents own in Lindenhurst. I haven't been there in years so I don't remember it at all, but you can't beat the price!

Lisa that is great!!!! I think $400-$500 would be fair. Apartments here are almost mortgage payments!!!!

thanks Lori. It sounds like such a cliche, but I really do miss the pizza and bagels. They're just not the same. LOVE emilio's!

We're paying $1500 now (for a small one bedroom), so I know all about crazy apartment prices (we were paying $1600! but I got a asked for a rent reduction last year).

Too bad I always live in the most expensive places - San Francisco and New York!

Coming home is starting to seem real now...

OMG- how amazing! Yes, I think $400-$500 would be reasonable.

Hey- I lived in NY, then SF, then back to NY (home). I have to agree- the pizza and the bagels are sooooo NOT the same!!!

I agree about $400 is fair...maybe bargain it down to $350 and tell them you will cook a fancy dinner once a month for them!

That is fantastic news, Lisa! I am very happy for you

I think half of $750 is a fair price - $325/month...considering it's your Dad and you want to save as much as possible....but, you could always offer your Dad $500, and if he says that's too much, than $325 is nice compromise
