You know what I love??

You know what I love??

I love when I see people who are many years younger than me buying homes. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside

I don't enjoy being poor

oh and this post is NOT meant towards anyone on this board. Just something I saw on FB earlier and it got me angry

this was the case for us... we would have NEVER been able to afford a house at the time we bought our house if DHs parents didnt take a loan out on THEIR house to loan us 15,000..... we JUST finished paying them off when we got our tax return back this year

We all beat ourselves up sometimes. This is when I look at the things I do have. I know it sounds cheesy but it always makes me feel a little better...

This is how I have been feeling for YEARS. We do so much, DH works so much, we pay so much in rent, loans, car payments, INSURANCE - and what do we get out of it???? Cars that are OLD by the time we pay them off, thousands upon thousands of dollars in rent and NOTHING to show for it, and no savings. It just kills me sometimes.

This is why I am moving out of the area. I know it's not PERFECT anywhere - everything costs a lot - but in some areas, it's better - you can actually afford a house - and you don't have to work yourself to the ground to get ahead. or put your kids in daycare forever.

Yes. We do have a lot more than some people ... but very few things I can call MY OWN.

Re: You know what I love??

I just found out that some one I know who is MUCH younger than me has $100,000 in savings and is buying a condo!

Re: You know what I love??

I really wish I lived at home longer and socked away money. Moving out, looking back, at 24 seems foolish. I could have saved soooo much money if I had just lived at home for 1, 2, 3 more years. I do not know if my relationship with DH would be what it is had we not lived together, and hindsight is always 20/20 ... but I could go back, I would seriously consider NOT moving out when I did.

Re: You know what I love??

So, i had a friend whose husband's parents paid for their HUGE wedding. She was always one 'upping', his parents bought them a 600,000 condo in NYC.

Just found out... She's leaving him. Haven't even been married for a year.

So, even though my DH and I rent an apartment and will probably have to save more $$ to buy a home, at least we love each other and we're healthy That's what I keep reminding myself!

it's good in theory, but then you have to change your cell number all the time. Frankly I don't have the patience for that!

Re: You know what I love??

I moved out at 24 and I don't regret it. I didn't get to see DH much at all and since we moved in I see him all the time and I just can't get enough of him. We'll rent for a little while longer then possibly buy a condo. Am I jealous when people my age or younger are buying homes? yes. But the truth is I'm happy with my life.

Re: You know what I love??

saving is so hard in NY especially if you didnt live with your parents- I was lucky- when I got engaged, I moved back in with my grandma for two years- she had just lost my gramps and needed the help anyway

but we never could have afforded the downpayment without that

we live in a small 2 bedroom coop- I watch a lot of HGTV and see 5 bedroom houses with walk in closets and 3 bathrooms for less than we paid here in NY- sux

Re: You know what I love??

I know it is hard, and I am not saying that I DON'T do this BUT you HAVE to stop thinking like that!

Some people get help, some people have resources that not everyone knows about.

Or, I know one couple, that got their house right away and I was SO jealous. Turns out they got one of those 'no down payment' mortgages, and they already have TWO mortgages on the house and they are drowning every day. I know this b/c they are family but to anyone else - all is perfect in the world. I do not know how they do it! They can't even sell b/c they wouldn't make enough to pay off what they owe!

So as I am stuck in my tiny attic apartment, I REALLY try not to be jealous - although it is so hard b/c we work so hard, we live with my parents and STILL all this time later we can't afford anything we like!
