VENT - Furniture delivery..what do I do?! Long but I need advice!

VENT - Furniture delivery..what do I do?! Long but I need advice!



Ok I am FUMING. We ordered 2 things from The Place Furniture in Farmingdale back at the beginning of August. Their delivery company is outsourced to a place somewhere in either Queens or Brooklyn...not sure which. This delivery company calls you to schedule. They REFUSE to deliver to Brooklyn on the weekends (EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE CLOSER TO BROOKLYN THAN LI) and will only deliver on Thursday. So DH and I each took a day off work to accept delivery on the two main parts of what we ordered...the table and the main pieces of our wall unit. A shelf for our wall unit was delayed, so they said they'd have to schedule another day to deliver it. So DH calls to schedule, and asks..actually BEGS the guy to guarantee it will be delivered before 12 so that he doesn't have to miss another day of work. So the guy says 'yes it will be there before 12'. DH wound up taking the day, because he had to go to the doctor in the afternoon, and run a whole bunch of other errands...

Fast forward to today....he calls the delivery place this morning to make sure they'll be there before 12 (he had a 1:00 appt for the doctor).The guy says 'yeah he's on his way'....11:55 DH calls again...WHERE IS HE...the guy says 'oh his way'. DH finally gave up at 12:30, called the guy back to say 'I want to cancel delivery because you are screwing me and I am losing any entire day of work when you told me that you would be here in the morning. They guys says 'NO YOU CAN'T CANCEL, THAT IS NOT ALLOWED'. So DH says 'well if I'm not here you can't deliver it!'. And then the A$$HOLE THREATENS TO CHARGE HIM FOR THE TRIP THE DELIVERY MEN MADE TO THE HOUSE!!! And said if he tries to cancel the shelf, WE WILL GET CHARGED FOR IT ANYWAY! So they basically have us by the BALLS!!!!!

So DH had to go up to our landlord and leave this poor old woman with a check and have her accept the delivery for us...and NOW WE DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THE SHELF IS RIGHT/FITS/BROKEN..AND WE HAVE TO SCHEDULE ANOTHER DAY FOR SOMEONE TO COME AND INSTALL IT!!!

P.S. THEY DIDN'T SHOW UP UNTIL 3:00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I AM SO FURIOUS!!! WHAT DO I DO?!?!!!!

OMG, I am sooooo sorry that happened to you guys. I know how frustrating that can be. My stupid EX-cable company RCN did that to me a few times.... I reported them to the BBB, I don't know what else to do. They really do have you by the baIIs in such a matter....

I'd re-read your contract with a fine toothed comb and confirm whether they have you by the balls or not. I can't imagine how threats are considered professional - I would definetly call headquarters and BBB.

Sorry you're going through this...I'd be infuriated.

Did you charge the furniture? If you did Dispute it wity your credit card company. I am going through this right now myself. Its funny how accomodating a company can be when you hold up a $4000.00 payment.

No, we didn't change anything.

I HATE THESE PEOPLE! The guy on the phone with DH was so matter of fact, he said it sounded like he was following a script.

I went through the same exact thing with my dining room furniture. They would only deliver on Thursdays so we had to take off from work. Long story short the table was damaged on the first delivery so we had to take off another day to accept the new table top....it came damaged again. I called the furniture store and gave them a good blasting and said if they don't deliver on a day I am already off I am cancelling the furniture and sending them a bill for lost wages for the previous two days I took off for them. They delivered the table on a saturday. A little yelling goes a long way sometimes.

Karen I'm so glad I read your post.

Of course, our landlord had to accept the shelf for us, without it being installed...and we open the box when we get home and it's the WRONG COLOR. Totally stained a different color. It's not slight differences in the wood..the stain is totally a different color. So now we have a shelf, not installed, the wrong color, sitting in my living room, and they want to schedule ANOTHER Thursday to come install it! Over my dead body..I want a refund!

I am so furious. I just left a looong message for our sales person..and calling again in a few if she doesn't call me back.

That su cks! I am so sorry.. so frustrating. I would complain to the district manager til no end and demand some sort of credit or something to make up for all the time and effort put into this furniture! If they do not oblige, I would threten them with going to BBB (which can be useless) or someone like Problem Solvers. Screw them!
