We have to do Pre-Cana as well and we're going to try and do it as soon as possible. Get it over with.

Re: 04 Brides
We were suppose to do ours early too but my pastor left me church (but he is coming back to marry us), so I have to wait for the new pastor to settle in before I approach him about setting up time for pre-cana.

My FH is going to try and get one of his friends who is an ordaned minister to marry us. Which to me is a nice concept and it will save us some money!

Re: 04 Brides
We're having FI's priest come to my church and do our ceremony. His priest did all his sacraments and we felt it would be very appropriate to have him do our wedding. We are also having a deacon that has been friends with my family for years be apart of our ceremony.

Re: 04 Brides
You guys I have a question. FH and I decided we wanted a small wedding party which was a hard decision cause we have a lot of friends. We decided to have 4 people each which would leave me with 2 family members and 2 friends. I am having a hard time deciding between my 3 closet friends which 1 of them I will pick for that last bridesmaid. Any ideas?

Re: 04 Brides
you can have someone be a readier. If someone has a really good singing voice, have them sing at your wedding.
edited to add: if someone is a poet ask them to write a special poem to be read at the ceremony or at the reception.
I had a huge fight with a friend who got mad at me because I didnt ask her to be BM, but asked her to be involved in other ways. She's still a little mad, but she'll get over it.
There are a lot of things someone can be apart of your wedding day even though they arent a BM

I was thinking a reader but we aren't having a church ceremony we are having the ceremony at the reception hall. Does all that stuff still apply?

Re: 04 Brides
I want to do pre-cana A.S.A.P, so that I don't have to worry about it. Well the priest that we want to marry us is due to leave the church 1 month b4 our date. So we're hoping that he'll do us a favor and come back to marry us. It would mean a lot to us b/c he'll be performing the engagement blessing for us soon.(we are doing this blessing so that FI's dad can be a part of it b/c due to cancer we don't know if he'll be with us for our wedding.) The priest is being really great to us during this whole situation.

Re: 04 Brides
I know what you mean. Feelings will get hurt. But I look at it this way, no matter what it is, no matter the role you want this individual to be apart of your special day. I am getting my reades a small coursage to wear, and a small gift.
I think asking your friend to play cello is a wonderful idea. They will be honored that you asked them to play at your wedding.

Re: 04 Brides
Well getting the readers a small corsage and a gift is a nice touch to making them feel more involved. I would ask my friends to be hostess but they all hate that idea and they feel like it is a down grade of our friendship. So although I could probably use some I won't have any hostesses.
But what are you going to do? In the end it's your day and yo have to do what's best for you?
We'll see what happens I have a few days left before I make the final decision. My mom is already pushing me for one friend over the other which makes it worse cause she's pulling at my heart strings.

Re: 04 Brides
Billys, I do not see why he would not come back. My pastor (who is going to marry us) left my church, but he is coming back to marry us since I have been active in my church since I was 13 years old so he is doing my the favor.

Yeah, well I hope they don't send him too far from our parish. But he said he'll do whatever he can do.

Re: 04 Brides
my mom was just upset that i have 3 BM's and not 4. I was like lady get over it. I have 2 readers, 2 friends who are coming the morning of my wedding and helping me out and going to the church early to set things up. my little hostesses. And they have no probs with it. They feel apart of the day and apart of the process of making it perfect. Some people are really sensitive and what I have learned is some people use how you place them in your wedding as how your friendship is with them. I think its a load of BS. but its your day.
I think having a friend do anything and then giving them a small gift whether it be a gift certificate or a voucher for dinner is a wonderful way of saying thanks and to really make that person feel appreciative and apart of the day.

Re: 04 Brides
Well we'll see what I'm going to do. I'll have to look more into the reader thing. I'm not sure I was versus from the bible read. Maybe some poetry about love and marriage or something. I know I'm so weird and not standard.

Re: 04 Brides
Happy New year to all and 2004 brides! Today was my first day back to work and I was able to tell someone I was getting married next year! YAY!!!! 14 months to go! Yesterday I found out that FH and I can become Domestic partners so I can go on his health insurance, does anyone know anythhing about domestic partners? I was told that it is just recognized by the state as an official couple..... I guess it is just the next step. I was told that this will not hurt us when we go for the marriage license. I am also having a hard time picking a veil, is it like when you find your dress, you just know???
