Princess: check w/ FH's insurance company -I was told that some don't accept Domestic Partnership. Also, there are some tax consequences to it. You must remember to change your status after you get married because different tax rates or something like that applies (my dad is an accountant and he tells me all this stuff, but I don't remember it exactly)

I already checked with Fh insurance carrier he works in NYC and they recognize it, I know if it was LI they would not recognize it. What kind of tax consequences if you know? Thanks

Re: 04 Brides
One of my co workers went on her then Fh's insurance as a domestic partner. He works for the City and they allow that. She had suggested that I do it also, but my FH works for a private company and he would have had to pay the same thing I would have to pay on my parent's COBRA. So we didn't do it. You also have to live toghether. My co-worker never mentioned any tax consequences though. I can ask her next week if you want.

Re: 04 Brides
Marcela that would be great if you can ask her.It seems too good to be true. I am paying so much for my health insurance and if I can save some money, I would be thrilled.

Re: 04 Brides
You should try it if you can do it. My job does allow for domestic partners good idea I should ask my FI he if wants to join my insurance tonight. Well we would have to wait till next year but anyway it would be some savings.

Re: 04 Brides
Hi all! I am now an 04 bride! We plan on getting married one of the first 3 weeks of July 04. So obviously what I have done is: 1) Called my Church but haven't set a defenete date. 2) Bought some magazines to look for dresses, etc. 3) Bought cards asking for my girls to be my maids 4) Have a book on reception places so once my date is set I will look at places in the next few weeks!
Happy planning!

Re: 04 Brides
I believe that domestic partnership was created so that gay couples have something like a marriage - I think. You don't get the same tax benefit you do if you were married but you'd have to check w/ an accountant for more specifics. I've only seen people do it for the same reason as above, for insurance benefits.

Amidom: Welcome and Congrats!!! YAY another 2004 bride!
Theresa: When you're living together and one of you doesn't have insurance, some insurances allow the partner who doesn't have insurance to be considered a domestic partner of the person who has insurance and and be put on their medical/dental insurance policy. I don't know about claiming them on your taxes.

Re: 04 Brides
I agree, the dates are filling up REALLY fast, when I booked my date, I orginally wanted May 31st (b.c it's cheaper) and it was open. I went back the next day to book it and the date was gone! I couldn't believe it! And this was 7 months ago! Nows its not even a year and a half away!

Re: 04 Brides
Yeah I decided to get married labor day weekend and the dates are going fast for that. And the more popular places, book up the fastest. If you aren't having a lot of people at your wedding it'll make it easier.
Have you and your FH decided how many people you are going to have? That's very important.
