Thank you everyone for your comments about the Cocktail Hour. We booked anyway and hope it will all work out. We'll have may be 140+ at this point and not too worried.

Booked Steve from Then Till Now for our DJ. He was so nice ---

Tip jar: Ew. My FMIL already told us that they want no tip jar and will pay for tip later.

Congratulations!

We booked Steve too! Isn't he the best?

OK -- so now I need information on florist. Is everyone going with the in-house florist? I plan on using the centerpieces in the package, but not sure about going w. the inhouse. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Re: 06 Riviera Brides Thread

Hey ladies,
Here's some info from my experience (which was awesome!)

Tip jars: They will put out jars on the bar and at the coat check unless you arrange that you will tip the bartenders and coat checker ahead of time. We discussed this at the final meeting. Robert Jay gave us guidelines on what to tip. My advice: have someone check that they do what you want on the day of. I was supposed to have Robert Jay, but he was sick, so Jennifer was my maitre'd last minute, and I think there was a miscommunication about the tip jars (we did NOT want them). The coat checker had a jar at at the beginning of the night. My dad spoke to Jennifer and this was quickly fixed.

CPs: I had the CPs that come with the package on the CH tables and spread around. I had my own florist (Mormiles in Rockville Centre) do the table CPs, etc. I also brought in my own candles for the tables.

As far as work being done: I don't know the story on the CH room, but they replaced all the windows in the building the week before my wedding. On Thursday, they were in the middle of the project, and on Saturday, everything was beautiful.

CH hour room size: I had 120 people in January (therefore no one was outside without a cigarette or cigar!), and from what I hear, it was a little tight, but no one complained. I didn't even see my cocktail hour, so I can't tell you anything from experience. People were in and out, in the lobby for pictures, at the tables (which they set up really fast after the ceremony), etc., so it is not like everyone is back there at once. They told us that 135 was comfortable in the room in its non-redone form when the CH is inside. They do have a little tent outside with a heater for smokers.

Bottom line is that they did a great job for my wedding and I cannot complain about anything. Acutally, my only complaint is that the wedding was too short and that I missed the mini-vienneise hour and the chocolate fountain because we were too busy talking with guests!

ETA: with 120 people, we had 2 bartenders. They were great - really nice, and they did plenty of shots with our guests, so I think they had fun, too! I don't think anyone waited long for a drink. DH's cousins drank them out of black sambuca!

Thanks so much for the mini review!!!!! I can't wait to see the place!!!! I will soon though!! I had also spoke with The Riviera about the tip jars and how I DO NOT want them out, and I would tip them afterwards. And I was told that wasn't a problem... I'm glad everything was wonderful for you though!!!!

Ok, I went to food tasting on Saturday. Someone's engagement party was going on. If they are having an engagement party at Riviera, I can only imagine where they would have the wedding

Anyway, food was excellent. We tried the leg of lamb. Very good seasonings -- We are going to pick the baby lamb chops instead though.

Update on the cocktail room: Meghan said they did not book any event for one week in April to do the work. So, it should be done by my wedding date.
