How are you handling booking rooms for guests? Are you blocking? I was told that they actually charge your credit card for the deposit and then issue one big refund after guests take up the spots. Is this normal? I thought they would just hold the credit card number in case.

Thats why I love the estate too. The only thing with the website is you can do a tour of the ballroom, so really sont get the full effect. But they ALL are really beautiful!

Re: '07 Eastwinders
thanks I 'm discouraged by the country gardens I don't feel as though it's grand enough. I don't want to double our list and loose the intimate feel either, maybe another location and I was so excited w/ the package and quote I got. I was looking forward to our day after brunch & honeymoon suite w/ all our friends and family there

We picked the Southhampton room and since its on a holiday, we had to go with a higher minimum because we talked them down on the price and had them add a deluxe Viennese and a champagne toast upon arrival. I'm a little worried about the minimum but not too worried beause we are inviting well over 200. (I have a huge family) My FH liked the Estate because he wanted a day wedding and we thought the Estate was a great place for a day wedding. I wanted a night wedding, so we picked the Inn and I let my FH choose the date as a compromise. Really you can't go wrong when you book there.(IMO) All of the rooms are beautiful!
Is 200 the min.for the southampton room?
Yes for Saturday nights high season!

Daytime wedding minimums drop somewhat. I would call.

Our minimum is 175 I think. We are getting married on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, so we had to go with a Sat. night minimum, or price. It worked out better to go with the minimum.

i am also getting married on the Sunday of Memorial day weekend but in 2006. they screwed up with pricing and they didn't realize it was memorial day weekend. I got the 175 minimum for $79.95! They honored their original price quote even after they told me they made a pricing mistake!! i love the Eastwind!!

How did the like the pics of the Country Gardens on the website. If your going for small and intimate, I think that would be perfect.

I like Giorgios, right now we're really in the Vanderbuilt Mansion @ Doweling. It's extremly grand, I hope we can alter the menu.

Re: '07 Eastwinders
We also like Dupont @ Suny Old Westbury wait it's de Serversky, I think if I understand correctly you can stay there on your wedding night? I went there for a charity event this mast spring and it was breath taking, it may be too pricy though. He loves Westbury Manor, I hate the idea of not being the only wedding, so it's still up in the air. We're leaning towards VM @ the moment.
At this rate we will be '08 afterall

Re: '07 Eastwinders
Just a few nothing impressed me:
- Larkfield : -Villa Lombardis's -Crest Hollow
FH refuses to visit any others until we know if they meet out requirements.
Wasted time.... well not really I suggested Larkfield to someone & they booked it was excatly what they were looking for, each place is somthing different for everyone

Re: '07 Eastwinders
You'll know it when you find it. I had no problem picking my hall AT ALL. Never even gave it a second thought. East Wind was the second place we looked at and we still went to a few places after. And when we left all the other places, we both kept saying 'I like East Wind better!' So thats what we went with! You'll know its the one when you see it.
ETA: Did you make out your guest list yet?? We did that first so we knew what kind of min we could make. It wasn't a finialized list but it was a ball park.
Our list has 240 and we made a min of 175. And we have already thought of other people that will be added when we make our final list.

Re: '07 Eastwinders
You know all the sites we've seen I was like this is nice , that's pretty, we were both like o-m-g- when we saw VM so I think this is it! We're complicted though. we want a 7hr /8 hr affair.:
we're willing to cut out the VH if nessersary. We're thinking it may be too much for guest, we may cut the 30 min extention to CH if we do photos before ceremony( still don't know how I feel about that and the taboo, however by the wedding we would be living together for 4 yrs so...)
Honestly do you think 7/8 hours is too much if you wee a guest?
I hate to be so demanding but you know this is somthing we only do once so we must get excatly what we want.
to quote another bride, Our Day Our Way

Re: '07 Eastwinders
We have, 2 list who we want & who we must invite. I really don't want my uncle's cousin's brother in law (you know what I mean) so it may be better for us to go w/ a place that can only accomadate 130-150 max you know.
I also want to put small tables arounf the room w/ candels to illuminate the room
