'07 Eastwinders

Original post by Luke&Lau

How are you handling booking rooms for guests? Are you blocking? I was told that they actually charge your credit card for the deposit and then issue one big refund after guests take up the spots. Is this normal? I thought they would just hold the credit card number in case.

Do you know what their min. is? Amount of people?

There min differs. It depends on what room you are in and what season. I have a min of 175 in April.

I think it's 200 for a Saturday night in the summer. It was 175 for me for a Sunday night holiday weekend.

Can you ladies help me make my decision?

Can you tell me why you chose East Wind, I love the fact that the Inn is right on the property and we don't have to worry about transportation, and we camn have a wedding weekend there, w/ brunch day after with our bridal party, parents, and Out of town guest.
FH & I were wondering why some other couples choses East Wind.

Thanks for your help Ladies!

The location is beautiful, the food is delicious and I just fell in love with it the minute I walked into the Estate. Oh...and my FH really liked it too!!

ETA: The price was right! We are paying $79.95 ++ for Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend.

East Wind is just beautiful!!! It was the one place that FH and I both loved!!!!!! I have been to a wedding there before - though not in the Estate and it was a great wedding.

I also chose it because when I brought my Mom there she feel in love with the Estate and that she has never seen a more beautiful wedding hall. And my mom has been to A LOT of weddings, and I mean a lot! she has practically been to a wedding at every place on LI!!!

What room was the wedding you attended in? I don't think we can guarentee 175? I know they have other rooms avaible, but I'd like an opion of somone who was there for a wedding. Thanks so much

Re: '07 Eastwinders

We were in the Southampton Ballroom and we booked the Estate. I like the Estate the best, obviously! But all the rooms are really beautiful.
Country Gardens is nice too, but a little small. Perfect for a smaller wedding. I think the max is 150 but I know someone who got married there and she had 145 and said it was tight.

Re: '07 Eastwinders

thanKs, which room was the wedding you attended? I would love the Southampton Ballroom, ( do you that min.)

We may be anywhere from 110-160 such a range. we don't think 20%of out invited guest will come, however everyone we talk to (even people we didn't intend on inviting wants to come)I'm nervous.

The country gardens is that like a cottage or somthing grand?

FH is apprehensive about driving 3 hours there & back if it's not for us. I was there for a food show, I thought it was beautiful. I never thought this decision would be so hard

Re: '07 Eastwinders

The wedding we attended was in the Southampton Ballroom. You would really have to go and meet with someone to get a min. I don't thinks its standard, so you may be able to talk them down on the min if you think what they are offering is too much.

We talked them down a little on the price, so I didnt bother trying to talk down on the min. Plus I think we be able to make 175, if not come pretty close.

Re: '07 Eastwinders

Thanks, I would rather have a smaller intimite wedding however our list continues to grow....Who did you work with? I spoke w/ Barbara over the phone and she is so nice

Re: '07 Eastwinders

Well around how many people are you expecting?? You can get a smaller min on a less popular day.

If you do go to meet with someone, ask for Michele Testa. Thats our BM and she is sooo nice and very helpful!

Re: '07 Eastwinders

I wouldn't feel safe making our guarentee for lmore than 130. Thanks for all of your help, I appreciate it! Have you seen the country estate(I forgot the proper name for the smaller room)? What was your honest impression of it?

Re: '07 Eastwinders

We picked the Southhampton room and since its on a holiday, we had to go with a higher minimum because we talked them down on the price and had them add a deluxe Viennese and a champagne toast upon arrival. I'm a little worried about the minimum but not too worried beause we are inviting well over 200. (I have a huge family)
My FH liked the Estate because he wanted a day wedding and we thought the Estate was a great place for a day wedding. I wanted a night wedding, so we picked the Inn and I let my FH choose the date as a compromise.
Really you can't go wrong when you book there.(IMO) All of the rooms are beautiful!

Re: '07 Eastwinders

The Country Gardens, I went in it at one of the showcases just to see what it looked like. I wasn't too crazy about it. The cocktail hour and reception are in two separate buildings and they both looked REALLY small. The rooms were beautiful though and so were the grounds. I also couldn't find the bridal suite... The told me that it was in the same building has the cocktail hour and I went in there and opened every door and didn't see it. Unless there is a separate entrance in the back but it was raining and I didn't feel like searching for it...

I'm going to another showcase on Oct 13th. If you want me to check anything out let me know! Also check out the website, you can do a virtual tour of the rooms.

Re: '07 Eastwinders

We chose East Wind mainly because it fits with who we are. We liked all the had to offer food wise as well. We also have a lot of out of town guests and the Inn as well as the Best Western will provide a close place for them to stay. We also plan on having a brunch the next day. The Estate is beautiful. The cocktail hour is very different looking from the reception. This was important to me. I wanted it to look and feel different. The grounds are gorgeous and allow for many photo ops. Hope this helps. Any questions FM me!

Re: '07 Eastwinders

Your too sweet Thanks I appreciate it, I manage a restaurant so it's hard for me to take time for me. A bridal showcase isn't excatly an emergency you know. I'd consider it one Thursday's are tough. I'm taking off next Thurday to go to dinner w/ FH @ oheaka(it's a bus. thing for him). I spoke to barbara and she said they may have one in nov. on a sunday?I'm going to try to make that.

It's kind of important to me to have our bridal suite in the same facility as the reception, you know to touch my make up. Use a private bathroom, also for my flowergirls to sleep when they get tired.

Hmmn

Re: '07 Eastwinders

Your so sweet!! I just went to the website. Ok this is going to sound really harsh(honest but harsh) I think the oudoors the country gardens are really charming, loved it. I think the dinning room looked uh well it didn't meet my expectations. Since we're looking at Nov. I have to find a place we love inside & out. Maybe we'll increase our count to get a better room. I only saw two rooms on the web. the country gardens and the estate(which I love!)

I may take you up on that offer can I let you know as we get closer?

The website does not give it justice!!! I swear! I looked at the website before I looked at the hall. My mom told me about East Wind and I never heard of it before, so I looked at the website. I didn't like it all, the pictures are so bad on the site! I honestly didn't want to even consider it. Then my friend told me how her friend booked there and it's beautiful. I was like 'Really????' (and her friend has really good taste..lol...so I knew it had to be nice). So I did make an appt to see it. As soon as I walked in, I feel in love with it! We are having our reception in the Southampton Ballroom, the main entrance, the entrance I walked in and fell in love with! We looked at a few places before and nothing compared. My FH didn't come with us the first time and also looked at the website and from the site and the pics said he really didn't like it to much. I told him he HAD to look at the hall himself, in person. He LOVED it!!!! (and it's hard to please him...he's picky!!). I knew he would love it too, thats why I made him come and look at it. We booked it on the spot. So you really should just consider it and take a tour. I am very picky too, believe me! I always found something wrong with each hall, but this hall, I was like 'this is it! I have to book!!!'

The only thing bad is that the larger rooms have a high min. guarantee.
