How are you handling booking rooms for guests? Are you blocking? I was told that they actually charge your credit card for the deposit and then issue one big refund after guests take up the spots. Is this normal? I thought they would just hold the credit card number in case.

Sorry to intrude on you board...but you are correct in how they block rooms. It is ridiculous in my opinion. You will lose the deposit if the rooms are not booked and you have to block a minimum of 10 rooms. Just to let you know, the girl at the inn told me that evne if you do not block there, your guests do receive a discount of say 10% if they say they are staying for you wedding.

I haven't booked any rooms yet - but I did hear that is how they do it. I know it stinks!

I am planning on gets rooms blocked at another hotel b/c some of my OOT guests will be here for a few days and EW is too expensive for that.

Then I will hold rooms at EW b/c my parents and some close friends and relatives will probably want to stay over so they dont have to drive home.

Yea I think it is a little ridiculous too. How am I supposed to block the exact # of rooms that I need? Even with the 20% discount that my guests would get if they book in our block, the rooms would still be $199 because its Memorial day weekend.
Almost all of my BMs are from out of town as well as my mothers family. Some of our friends also want to stay there. I'm upset because I want them to get the best deal (20% discount), but laying out that kind of cash is not possible.

I am also getting married on memorial day weekedn but in 2006. We blocked hotel rooms at teh Best western in Riverhead for $149 dollars. I also know that if your guests book 15 rooms there, they provide a free 15 passenger shuttle!

This is really good to know b/c I was thinking of this hotel for me OOT guests.

Thanks for posting this!

Oh wow....I didn't realize how expensive East Wind hotel rooms are! That's crazy!!! It's risky putting the deposit on your credit too. I may just have the guests who want to stay at East Wind book their rooms ASAP and reserve some room at the Best Western.

So did anyone book the 'bridal' suite room at East Wind??? I did! ...although I had to pay $300 more. I think it will be worth it though! I heard it has a jacuzzi. Plus I may invite some guests up afterwards for a post-wedding party!

My FMIL booked the suite for us as part of our wedding gift! Love her!

Re: '07 Eastwinders

I didn't book it, I just kept the complimentary room that they give. I figured that we would all hang out at the bar there afterwards (if its still open) I would rather put that extra money towards the honeymoon!

I agree with above. The money can be better spent elsewhere! Plus, your going to enjoy your night whether or not you spend more on a suite.

yeah....I agree. My parents paid for us to have the suite. Otherwise I wouldn't have paid for the upgrade.

What package did you girls choose? We're interested but I'm concerned w/ the amount of food they give us. Other placess (giorgios) give much more. Do you think their will be enough food. FH doesn't want to look b/c they only give you a choice of a pasta station, or carving not both like many facilities do.

They give you an enormous amoutn of food. You get both a pasta station (2) and carving stations(2). I would check it out. I think that you would be surprised. Maybe you were misinformed?
