08'er wants your opinion ladies...UPDATED QUESTION

ok so at my wedding I invited this family of 5 +1 fiance (a dad, mom, 3 daughters and her finace). They RSVP'ed NO becasue they were going to be on vacation... fine. Great. Considering we knew this family for 25 years and we are familly friends dont you think they should have sent a gift, a card, something?!? ESPECIALLY becasue they know their daughters wedding is coming up right after and they expect us to be generous?! Any thoughts?.....

ALSO...
Now, that daughter is getting married and she invited my husband and I, and an invite for my parents too. SInce I got married my family is just now my two parents AND two brothers. My parents invite was adressed to Mr.& Mrs. ____ and Peter (my 1st brother). My parents were so confused as to why my other brother's name wasnt on the invite so they havent sent out the RSVP yet.

So this girl sends me a message on facebook saying do you know where your parents RSVP is?

I sent her a messege back saying they didnt see michal's name so they were confused.

she's like oh no, I know you have another brother but we cant invite everyone becasue we are inviting 300 people and thats our limit, we had to cut out certain people and we did this to other families too because we want as many families as possible!!!!?????????????? HOW DOES THIS EVEN MAKE SENSE??? I never heard of inviting HALF a family, ESPECAILLY since i invited her WHOLE family (6 people) AND her fiancee who I dont even know but I invited him becasue i thought it was appropriate.

Am I wrong ladies? I wanted to know your opinions becasue maybe its just my culture who is very against this? DId you guys ever hear of this.. inviting half the family???

I am just so offended...between them not giving us anything at our wedding and now this... I am on FIRE!!!!

THIS IS THE EXACT CONVERSATION IF YOUR INTERESTED:

1:00pmMary
dalia do you know if your parents and peter are coming to the wedding? i dont think i got a response from them

1:00pmDalia
i dont know if you know but i have another brother lol

michael.. he is really quiet thats why maybe you dont know him.. he's 19

1:02pmMary
lol no i do know michael... i wish i could have everyone at the reception i really do...but its been so hard

the hall only holds up to 300 people and we had more than that on the guest list so we had to eliminate...you know how it is

we had to make our parents eliminate and we had to elminate...but we also wanted to include everyone as many as we can

1:10pmDalia
hmm, i understand where your coming from in terms of having a small room and too many people, I was in the same position as you.. but i didnt invite half of any families, I either invited the entire family or not... in any case they didnt send the RSVP becasue they were confused about that point... now that its cleared up I dont think they will be able to make it becasue its not right for everyone to go and leave michael home alone

1:17pmMary
im sorry that they feel that way...i would have loved to have them there. we invited as many people as we could, and we actually had to do that with a lot of families so we could have as many families as possible. if they do decide to come that would be great, but if not i understand.

1:24pmDalia
ok mary, thanks for clearing that up. You should be recieving the RSVP soon

1:44pmMary is offline.

********************************************************************UPDATED QUESTION: I'm filling out my mothers RSVP... Should I just check off 'will not attend' and leave it at that... or should I write a little sentence like 'wish we could have ALL been there'???

Who invites one brother and not the other? If she was smart she would have just invited your parents but apparently they are lacking in the 'brains and etiquette' department. How rude is that? I'm in disbelief that someone would think that was appropriate.

I would RSVP No and not send a gift, they didn't send you one and they don't deserve to be treated any better.

That is so strange i can't imagine inviting half a family

That is beyond effed up. If anything, they shouldn't have invited either of your brothers, to invite one and not the other is absurd. I would say no for yourself and your husband, and hope that your parents and one brother say no as well, and do not send a gift. That's ridiculous.

OMG, thank god you are on the same page as me becasue I knew this cant be good manners!! How can my whole family go and just leave my brother (he is 19) home? He would feel AWFUL! LIke he's a peice of crap!

The thing is my husband and I already RSVP'ed YES, BUT at that time I didnt know she was gonna be so rude and invite half my family only. So now should me and my husband even go? Should I call her and say we're not gonna be able to make it??
My husband wants to be nasty and even though we RSVP'ed yes he just doesnt want to show up!

I don't know these people and I don't like to judge people I haven't even met but maybe they wanted to invite as many families as possible to get as many gifts as possible??? Regardless of their reasoning, I think that is SO messed up and I definitely would not go.. I would make up some reason now.. Maybe a spur of the moment 'trip' and I definitely would not send a gift.. I cannot believe people could be so rude!!!

I would call and tell her you're not gonna be able to make it....and if she asks why I would tell her that she's an a$$ for what she did.

They obviously dont have a f'ing brain.

HOW do you send an invite to half a family????

This is SO wrong on SO many levels. You either invite everyone or ust the parents.

When you have a guest list of 300??????

I would not go and I would not send a gift.

Personally I am NOT easily offended, and I cant say this is really offensive BUT they are just stupid stupid stupid.

I have not seen anything this F'd up on this board ever.

Dont go. Dont send a gift.

Then just dont invite either .. honestly maybe they did it on purpose that only your parents would go or not go at all... and this is just me cause Im a fiesty Italian and I hate disrepect but if they cant be bothered to come to yours, dont go to theres and dont send a gift (unless they sent you one)

Call her and tell her you and FH can no longer make it.....and mention that she is F'ed up for what she did.....she should have only invited your parents if her # of guests was an issue, DO NOT SEND A GIFT!!!!!, and DO NOT FEEL BAD....shes an A$$.

I would just have your mom RSVP yes for all of them -- even the brother who wasn't invited.

We know people are doing it to us all the time, bringing extra guests. It's annoying, but you su(k it up and deal with it. Then you and your whole family could go and have a nice time that night.

Oh, and I wouldn't worry too much about what to give them. You can make it proportional.

You know I kinda wish she hadn't caught me on facebook and asked about the RSVP... then we coulda just played dumb and my family could have said 4 and just sent it.... what would she do? she would have to just suck it up, right?

but now seeing how she's acting, she probably would have called and been like 'um, it cant be 4, only 3 sorry'.

i totally agree with the other girls, don't go, don't send a gift and don't feel bad

That's ridiculous! I would never invite half of a family. DH's grandfather tried to get us to invite only the oldest of each of his siblings' children and I said absolutely not! I would just RSVP no and don't bother sending a gift. It sounds like these people just have no class at all.

Ok, just to play devil's advocate, we had to make the cut list somewhere because our hall is small so we decided that we were not going to be able to invite anyone under 21. So yes sometimes we did invite half of a family due to our cut off. However, everyone knew the circumstances and they were understanding. I wonder if they are doing the same thing???????

Re: 08'er wants your opinion ladies...

Uh yea that's a little bit rude.

Honestly... do her the favor by RSVPing NO... then she can give your seats away to a family that she only invited half of... since she is so hard up for seats!! OR she can invite another half family.

And you also know you are off the hook for a gift, right?? I hope you aren't sending one! I SO WOULDN'T!

However, good job on diplomatically getting your point across.

In one sense I do understand not inviting the WHOLE family... but I certainly wouldn't leave 1 adult out. If you invited adults only but not their children... I htink that's fine. I just don't see inviting a whole family and leaving ONE person out. It just doesn't look right.

I know it's a cultural thing to invite the entire family (for me it's different)... but if thats the case then they should have scouted out better locations that can hold a wedding for her number of people at a price that works for her.

That is totally absurd!!!

I would be MAD! If they couldnt invite the ENTIRE family, then they should have only invited your parents....or none of you at all.

We had to draw the line somewhere with our guest list....but not right through a family!
