10-er crashing and thinking WAY ahead about my favors...
Ok I am getting ahead of myself and thinking about favors for the wedding. I would like to make a donation in lieu of traditional favors, but do I still need to give an actual item also?? Do any of you know how to get into contact with the charity to make the donation and get the scrolls (or papers or whatever) that say that a donation was made?

hey! good 4 u thinking bout favors, i havent looked into that yet! lol my friend did a donation to the heart association and since her weding was right b4 christmas she gave a little heart shaped ornament. I also saw people give a little box wiht chocolates, but you really dont have to give anything! Also, she got the fancy paper from staples and we printed the poem she used on small paper and rolled them up ourselves and tied with ribbon. as for contacting the place, sorry i dont know any info about that!! HTH!

sorry can't really help u with this, but I think it would be nice to give your guests something they can take home, but it definitely isn't necessary...

Wow you are really ahead of yourself! Stop you're making the rest of us look bad! JK
Maybe just a small bag or box filled with candy (people always love food), and somehow attach a scroll or just a little tag about the donation. And I think it depends what charity you are giving to. Some might actually send you something to hand out but most I've seen have made their own scroll to give.

First you need to pick a charity that you are going to donate to. Then go onto their web site and take it from there. You will either be able to do it on line or they will give you a number to call.
As for giving out something along with a poem, that is up to you. I am doing this, I'm making my donation in memory of my FMIL and giving out a gift to do the same. Not everyone that makes a donation gives a gift as well.

great idea about the charity...so many of my friends did it...they also gave chocs with the little piece of paper about the charity

Favors are entirely optional. It's up to you whether you want to give your guests something on top of the donation.
Some charities will give you cards or other momentos commemorating your donation. Others won't, so you may have to make your own.

I know Livestong has something on their website for gift giving donations
I would call the organization you were planning to donate to find out the information.

This is a good thread! I was just thinking this same thing. I sadly lost my mother to lung cancer and would like to donate to the American Cancer Society. I e-mailed them last night about doing a donation as a favor, they haven't e-mailed me back yet. I was also thinking if I should give something else too.
