Re: 12 Hour Flight to Tahiti...Ambien?
I took Ambian on a flight to Australia. It knocked me out for 9 hours. It was the first time I ever took a sleeping pill. When I woke up I felt like a million bucks. I never took it again because I do not have trouble sleeping but I can understand how people get addicted. I plan on taking it again when we go to tahiti.

I take Ambien almost every time I fly for a long trip. For me it works like a champ, I pass out and wake out feeling great. Some people have different reactions to every drug, so I would check it out with you doctor first.

If you take it, you have to make sure you can get atleast 8 hours of sleep in. Anyway, I don't see why you shouldn't take it. I may take half of one on my flight to Greece. Being awake on a plane for that many hours is just soooooooooo boring.

There was a story on the news this morning about Ambien takers who are sleep eating... they get up out of bed and binge and don't even know it.

Aside from safety issues, what time are you arriving in Tahiti? I thought about taking a sleeping pill, but we arrive at nearly midnight, so I wouldn't be able to sleep and reset my clock.

xanax may knock you out, but it shouldnt be used for falling asleep, but rather for anti-anxiety. it actually disrupts your sleep as well and you dont wind up getting a full nites sleep. same thing with alcohol. what i mean by disrupts your sleep, is you go into a light sleep and not a full deep sleep, the latter which is required for a good nites sleep.
i read this somewhere, dont remember where.

Re: 12 Hour Flight to Tahiti...Ambien?
I've never taken Ambien, but I took Tylenol PM once. I actually had a urinary tract infection (I know, too much information) and I had a final the following day. I really needed to sleep, so I took it. I felt like a million bucks the next day (and slept like a baby, UTI and all!). That's the only time I've ever taken a sleep aid, but I definitely would if I was going to Tahiti.
Most sleep aids say that you need to devote a certain # of hours to sleep if you're going to take it. If I'm going on a flight that's less than that amount of time (I think it's 8 hours), I usually take a Benadryl (spelling?). That usually knocks me out for two hours or so.

What!?!? That's crazy...can you imagine?!?! You bake a cake one night, and the next morning it's gone...weird! I wonder what causes that.

I would suggest melatonin get it at drug store but Not Ambien.I work with seniors who were using it frequently and Doctors have been taking them off and using Lunesta.

Take a Valium/Xanax if you aren't comfortable with taking ambien

I am an occasional Ambien user. I would not recommend you take a drug you have never used before on a 12 hour flight, not the best idea. If however, you have used it before and know how it affects you, take it. As far as the binge eating or driving while on Ambien, I have never had that kind of an issue before.

Do you need it? I always fall asleep on planes but fh takes like unisom or something to knock himself out (he's a nervous flyer).

Tylenol makes a new pill called TYLENOL SIMPLY SLEEP! It works much better for me then Ambien.

i always wake up feeling groggy from that, but that is just me. but it is better than tylenol PM b/c there is no acetominphin(spelling?)..
