Has anyone done this or thought of doing this?? My boss was just telling me he went to a wedding this weekend at Thatched Cottage and it was an hour and a half cocktail hour.
I love this idea because I am getting married at my hall and it only leaves me with an hour for pictures and no cocktail hour.. If I did 1.5 hours I could take pictures and still go to the cocktail hour..
Appreciate any feedback ladies!!

We did that. More food for your money!

Re: 1.5 Cocktail Hour??
I have never heard of this, but it sounds like a really great idea! The cocktail hour of a wedding is always so much fun! Do you think your wedding hall would allow you to do this? For my wedding we were running a little bit late (the ceremony was at the hall) and they actually cut the cocktail hour short! I was so mad!

I love the idea of 1.5 cocktail hour. Like you said, it gives you a chance to take pictures and not miss the whole thing. Not to mention, the food is usually the best at the cocktail hour so why not have an extra half hour to enjoy it.

Re: 1.5 Cocktail Hour??
I just booked my reception at Thatched Cottage and yes, we are going to do 1 1/2 cocktail 'hour' .... I didn't request it, but that's the way it worked out (lucky for us!) Its a great idea, IMO.
I have such a big gap between church and reception (1pm church; 5:30 reception), so I'm glad to have some extra time for everyone to relax at the cocktail hour. I certainly will have PLENTY of time for pics, and then some (no complaints here!)
The reason Thatched does this (I think) it b/c they only hold ONE wedding at a time there, so there is no issue with getting people out of one room and into another
Good luck

Re: 1.5 Cocktail Hour??
I am doing this too. For a 1/2 hour before my cocktail hour, the Manor East will be serving coffee, cookies, etc. and then cocktail hour will start. This makes my reception 6 1/2 hours.

Re: 1.5 Cocktail Hour??
I love the idea since it goes so fast and the food is so good. But I wonder if people will over eat and not enjoy their dinners?

Re: 1.5 Cocktail Hour??
We are doing a 1.5 Cocktail Hour..., we are also extending the reception and hour (we think, we get to decide that night) and adding the jazz hour...the reception will be a over hours...i think the time will go fast, and we want to savour it. Plus it's Valentine's night, we want our guests to have fun with their special love one.

Re: 1.5 Cocktail Hour??
I would do it - We added a 1/2 hour to our cocktails think it is nice - now i can relax IF we want to take photos and know that I can still have at least an hour of our cocktail party

Re: 1.5 Cocktail Hour??
I love the idea from the brides perspective however as a gueat at a wedding with the extra half hour I could not wait untill the actual party started I thought it was way to long... It might have been because the cocktail hour room was small and there were not enough chairs for every guest.. But I would love it for me!!! more time to relax and say your hellos so you can enjoy your reception

Re: 1.5 Cocktail Hour??
I am not worried at all about the room.. My hall has a whole seperate area for the cocktail party and that room is big enough for a wedding alone.
I do hope that my guests are not bored. But I will have good food and drinks, so hopefully it goes fine..
Thanks again!

Re: 1.5 Cocktail Hour??
At the Manor East, I have three seperate rooms for each thing. I have the Club Room for the pre-cocktail hour, then my guests move to the L' Cortile room for the cocktail hour (there are enough seats for each person invited) and then they move into the Grand Ballroom for the reception.

Re: 1.5 Cocktail Hour??
wedding we went to recently at Giorgio's was an hour & a half cocktail. SOOOO MUCH FOOD!!! Which was good because dinner was only okay (my beef was too rare and cold & veggies were undercooked).
