I went to a florist upstate and this is what I got!!! I went to Pedestals a few weeks ago so I would know what I wanted and they more than tripled Pedestals!
The florist up there was shocked that I could get the prices I got down here. I think they must not do 'my kind of wedding' up there. They were showing me bouquets with 1 dozen roses in it, and considered anything bigger a 'very large' bouquet.
I can't believe it!
Has anyone had or heard of anyone transporting flowers that far? They said they would go upstate and I know they use refrigerated trucks, so why is my family telling me I'm crazy?

Near Lake George......they were shocked that I could pay less than $5000 for the same thing.

Re: $15,000
They assume because you are in the NYC area you will pay $15K for something you can get for $5K. This happened to me too. I was quoted $1100 ($5.50 per slice) for a cake with SILK flowers to feed 200. I got a quote for the same cake with gum paste flowers for $585.

It might be because they get a lot of wealthy people who have vacation houses there and decide to get married there? My MOH said the same thing happens pretty frequently in VT as well.
Even if that's the case, I could see increasing the price a little, but $15K?!?! Unless you're getting loads of flowers or they're all really exotic, that's a TON of $$$!!

Re: $15,000
I really think they don't see many really big weddings like what we are having. She was charging me $3 per rose! I said yeah, for a dozen, not for a whole wedding!
Just because we are getting married at the Sagamore doesn't mean you can rob me! I have a summer house there too, but it doesn't mean I'm made of $$$$$$. This woman was in complete shock! I told her I was highly insulted and she was speechless.

My florist is charging me $3 a rose as well. It's crazy! There's something about those upstaters--okay, so mine is only in Westchester, but that's sort of upstate

She was also charging me setup fees, almost as much as Pedestals would charge! $575 per centerpiece, $320 for my bouquet, $175 for BMs, and $18 for pew ribbons.....without any flowers!!!!!!

$3 per rose!!! They are probably the least expensive flower to use.
I think this happens alot to brides who pick certain venues. I know a bride who booked Oheka posted that the vendors look at her like a It is insulting though.
My father's friend in VA is a caterer and although he would do our wedding for a steep discount, he said weddings are a $30 billion industry and everyone involved sees brides as cash cows. He is the one who pointed me to the bakery that can do the cake I want for $585. He was pissed when I told him about the $1100 cake with SILK flowers - not even handmade sugar flowers.

What?!?! That's their SET-UP fee? No flowers included?!?! What is that about?!? That's absolutely insane.

I have stopped telling vendors what I do for a living because of things like this. Once they feel like you have the money to spend, they try to get every penny out of you and then some.
My least favorite experience during all of this is the 'preferred vendor' list and the extra fees that are charged if you do not use a preferred vendor. As expected, the preferred vendors are all

And my mom thinks I am crazy for getting upset, she says I should just laugh, but then says I shouldn't use someone from down here, because she doesn't rrust that the flowers would get there ok, and that worries me too, but what choice do I have?
My brother just called me. He's getting married in April. He said he would freeze his flowers and sell them to me for $13,000......I'm gonna kill him!
Everyone is calling me bridezilla now!

Okay, that is utterly ridiculous. You must tell us the name of this vendor.

You have every right to be upset! Have you tried going on The Knot to see if there are any decent, non-insanely priced florists in that area? I wonder if other people have gotten the same quotes as you or if the florist was really trying to gouge you?
ETA: Just saw your response to my post. That's still a lot to pay for CPs. My CPs are around $300 for a little over 100 roses (they threw in 10 'for free' ).

You are not being a bridezilla. You just don't want to get ripped off. Those set up fees are highway robbery.
six month old dried flowers for $13K sounds like my brothers idea of a good deal.

I went on recommendations from the Sagamore and people who live up there, my mom insisted I go to this florist, I didn't want to. I went to another florist while I was there, I am still waiting to see what they say, I am not sure if I'll be able to handle it!
Thanks Ladies, I appreciate the support.

for that kind of money, those flowers better be encrusted with diamonds!
