FH has a cousin who is 16. We did not invite him to the wedding with a guest. Actually, at our e-party he showed up w/ his friend (a male friend) which annoyed everyone b/c they never asked if he could bring a friend. FH's parents couldn't believe it! That's pretty much the reason we didn't invite him with a guest to the wedding.
I got his reply the other day and he wrote '2' on it and then started to write 'I've included my GF thanks!' I guess his parents caught it and said something b/c he crossed out the '2' and made it a '1' and crossed out what he wrote.
The thing is, FH feels like if he has a girlfriend he should be allowed to bring her. I am not SO against it, however, they're 16 - are they even gonna still be together by the time the wedding is here? I REFUSE to let him bring a friend in her place, should they happen to break up! And FMIL pointed out that even if he brings her, he prob won't give more of a gift, unless his parents make it clear to him that he has to...
Any insight???

I agree - it would tick me off that he just tried bringing his GF anyway lol.
If it was a brother or something, I would say yes. A 16 year old cousin? No way.

I say DONT invite....like you said they are 16 and at that age they don't need a guest. They are still young, it's not like they wont know anyone
plus what happens if they break up.

We're going to see him this weekend at our niece's christening so FH plans to pull him aside and have a chat with him about it. He won't make a decision right then, obviously, FH and I will then discuss. I have to tell him what FMIL said though about the gift thing...

If you have already included just 1 on his invite leave it like that. Just tell him, you're already booked up with seating.

I would not have him bring a guest. A 16 year-old does not need a date at your wedding.

Since you already invited him solo you should stick to that. A 16 year old does not need a date to a family wedding. Just my opinion

I agree. I didn't invite any one with a guest unless they were over 18. The only person I allowed was my brother, but that was b/c he's a pain in the ***.

NO WAY!!!!!!!!! FH brother just turned 18 a month ago and his girl friend will be 18 in July about two days before we get married. They have been together for a year (well school year) and FMIL said she is famliy. Well maybe to you and I said she can come if you pay for her. No way, they are to young for a guest!

Re: 16-year old cousin - should he bring his G/F?
I have the same issue (sort of) I just got back from florida and visiting my aunt. I was talking to her about the wedding and then says to me 'well I have three boys and they all have girlfriends so they are coming with us'.
I didnt say anything at first but then I was thinking... The oldest is 23 and he is living with his girlfriend who has been together for like ten years... so ok fine I get that.... but her other two sons are 21 and 16!!! AND the 21 yr old gf is 16!!!! So immedially say to my aunt how are his gf's parents going to let thier 16 yr old daughter go to ny from florida for a weddin?!?!? She totally reassures me that they would because they go to the same church... So i just dropped it and when I got back to NY told my father that he needs to deal with it!!! I'm sorta annoyed I didnt say anything at the time but she totally caught me off guard and I wanted to keep it light since I was visiting and havent seen them in three years. (sorry so long)
