1929 / Speakeasy wedding anyone?

So I am having a 1920-esq wedding. I like to say its not a theme (like no costumes or anything) more like a vibe lol.
So far I have the following:
Cigar roller
Ragtime Jazz pianist for cocktail hour
Ostrich feathers for CPs and BO k s

Any suggestions for things that will add to this but not make it like a costume party?

TIA
Lauren

maybe wear a birdcage veil with some ostrich feathers.

boa's and fedora hats passed out by the DJ for party props.

have a signature martini drink

here's a bride who blogged about her 1920's wedding.

hope this helps

Finger wave hair styles. Long pearl necklaces for your BP. You would def have to pick the right dresses for you and your BP. Looking the suit styles of men from then (skinny ties maybe?). Have you picked your RH yet? Make sure you pick one that is dark... Panelling, Victorian. The Deseversky Mansion comes to mind. Maybe Lands End.

Go to Uniquevintage.com for your bridal party dresses. They have vintage inspired flapper dresses that are not too like a costume, in my opinion. They are not cheap looking either. I went to a wedding last year and the bridesmaids were all wearing a black and silver flapper like dress and they were stunning. Their stuff is not too expensive either. BM dresses might run 150. They also carry bridal gowns. My dress for my engagement shoot is from there too.

I dont really have any ideas other than those listed so far but I just wanted to say I love it! Our wedding is loosely 'Old Hollywood Glam' also in the sense that we dont want to go overboard with costumes or anything. We are sticking with lots of feathers and bling, we got a swing band, and are hoping to have someone give a quick swing lesson at the end of cocktail hour. Good luck, I cant wait to see how it comes together!

The Metropolitan and Old Field Club definitely have that kind of vibe, too. Love the theme! It's going to look amazing!

art-deco inspired patterns for you tables and Futura font for your table cards. Ignore who ever said the birdcage veil thing, that's a 40's style. Make a gin-based signature cocktail for your night if possible.

p.s. AngelicaStudios.com for photography, they're wonderful, and look at the Chateau Briade for architecture in Garden City.

i am trying to do this as well (since my RH was a big hit in that era with famous parties and tons of history, etc).

we have everything you had mentioned (adding feathers in the CP's etc). Additionally we are having a vintage style photobooth and i am planning on wearing a bird cage.

goodluck planning!

this is similar to our wedding too. We're doing red roses and black ostrich feathers for centerpieces. I am also wearing a birdcage veil. Our RH reminds me of the times as well. We are also trying to have a piano player playing old billie holiday / ella fitxgerald-esque music

ETA: but since you are doing 20s theme, I would say fingerwaves would def be nice...also long pearls and slinky dresses. Look into Art Deco styled invites

thanks for the advice everyone. I already booked crestwood manor which I think fits the era perfectly.

Definitely check out the 2011 Pronovias line. They have some gorgeous vintage inspired gowns. That is such a fun wedding theme!

There was a bride who got married at the West Sayville Country Club who posted her review about a year ago. She tried to incorporate the same theme. I believe she rented an old Ford as their transportation which looked cool in the pics. Good luck!

love this idea! I agree with some of the other girls' suggestions, such as birdcage veil, pearls... you could get flasks for your bridal party and take cute pictures with them...

David Tutera did a 1920's themed wedding at Oheka Castle. It looked beautiful. Check to see if there are any clips on his (or the wedding central) website. Needless to say there were a lot of peacock feathers, gloves, pearls and a swing band.
