Re: 1st Winter LIPA bill
I had the same problem. My electric bill has always been around $100 since we moved in. This month it was $300! We have gas heat, but couldn't figure out why it was so high, so we went ahead and signed up for the balanced billing plan.

ours is usually 123. in the summer so far this winter its been 92.00 the summer we had the central air running. that sounds high for the burner going on.

I'd say mostly because of the burner being on and also because the days are shorter, more lights on. Though lights don't use too much energy.
Do you have an electric stove? Are you cooking indoors more since its winter?
What heats your water? If you have an electric hot water heater they EAT UP kilowatts like MAD!
Also the rates for electric supply and delivery change daily so some months its high and some low.

With balanced billing, you pay the same amount every month (for us it is $98) no matter how much you use. At the end of the year, they may owe you money and then they give you a credit.
