2 years

Is 2 years a really long time for an engagement?? It seems soooo long, but we have to wait this long for financial reasons. Should I start planning now...or enjoy being newly engaged for a while????

I dont think it's a long engagement at all.... In the beginning it seemed so far away... and although we do have many months ahead of us, it's closer than you think...

Enjoy being engaged! It's such an awesome time! Just leave yourself enough time to plan so that it's stress free!

Hi!! Im with you on the waiting because of monetary reasons. But it really is up to you and when you are comfortable about starting to plan. It can never hurt to look around to see what kind of RH you want, since thats one of the first things you should look for. But lots of girls just take some time to enjoy being engaged as well. It IS two years away, so if you feel like waiting you will still have plenty of time!

i dont think its too long it gives you time to save up your money, you could start looking for places now because they give you better prices farther in advance then if you wait to book

its not long at all! most of the 09 girls are having at least a 2 year engagement, if not longer and lots already have their rh's and some vendors booked.

but you do have plenty of time if you want to just enjoy being engaged for a while. whatever works for you!

when you think about it 2008 is really almost here, then 2009. 2 years is enough time to plan

by the way, we have the same date!

I had a long engagement too for financial reasons. I'm going to school and only working part time. We are paying for most of the wedding ourselves. Originally I only wanted something small and quick but FH wanted a 'wedding'. So I started looking at places and booking vendors. You have plenty of time right now. You are going to get so sick of hearing that but you do! There are so many good vendors out there.

My friend just got married. She saved for awhile and booked everything kinda last minute. She didn't book the hall until about 6 months before but was able to negotiate prices. This isn't for everyone because certain things cost more last minute. Like your dress. Take your time, do research, think of what you can do yourself (for me that's not anything! lol)

I have a lot booked so far so we will go ahead with all our plans but I really would have stuck to my guns and had something smaller and sooner. I'm excited about the wedding but it's FH that I'm more excited about.

PLEASE start planning now. We're also wiating 2 yeras for the same reason. One great perk in waiting this long is, if you book with the vendors now, in 2007, you will get 2007 prices, and not 2009 prices. Please book your venue, and all your vendors as early as possible. Our plan is to pay for all our vendors in 2008, and 2009 we will finish paying the venue. In this way, uou wouldn't be cramming, or stressing yourself.

i don't think it is too long...it gives you enough time to save and plan for everything w/o driving yourself insane

It is but it isn't...I think you should plan a little at a time but don't go nuts with getting everything done now... I have my RH and photog booked and over the summer is when I plan on booking DJ and I am doing everything else the year of my wedding. Enjoy the engagement!!! 2 years will fly by with everything you have to do to prepare!

Yes I booked many things in advanced and I am on payment plans which is nice.

What I suggested before is to save your money first! You also get a better idea of what you can budget for but like I said it's not for everyone. But you definately have time to do research.

I also want to suggest, initially book basic packages and thendo the add ons if you can. I already booked my add ons for photo and DJ and I'm spending more this way. What do I need a 4X4 replica of my wedding album for? But it was cute and an impluse buy.

I totally agree with you. We did the same thing. You book all the basic packages, and according to your budget as you go along, you add on, or leave be certain things.

I love the fact that we've given ourselves two years. Saving for a wedding is like saving ofr your house. You will never save enough, thus will ultimately never gt married...so jsut JUMP in...I think it's fun going to the vendor appointments with your fiance, and doing everything together, and in advance...It's a great therapy for the relationship also.
