20,000 Leagues Under My Office

20,000 Leagues Under My Office

I get to work this morning, a little bleary-eyed and sleepy, and I'm greeted by my supervisor swooping upon me before I even reach my desk.

'A pipe burst in the kitchen! The whole place is flooded! Don't turn on your computer yet!'

Sure enough, there's water gushing out of the kitchen, gushing, y'all! Half of the office was a little flooded! And apparently so is the hallway outside and the office below us.

For about half an hour we all sat around mocking my supervisor (she was wearing galoshes...the hell??) and hopng we'd get sent home. Unfortunately the computers were functional, but because some of the desks were sitting in puddles of water, we were playing musical terminals all morning.

And I just went out into the hallway to go the ladies room. It smells like the Bog of Eternal Stench out there. And the kitchen is damp and smells like a swamp. Can't wait for the aroma it will surely have tomorrow with the humidity we're supposed to get!

P.S. my least favorite sound in the world is 2 wet-dry vacs going non-stop for 4 hours.

Is it better or worse than the sprinkler leaking above your desk?

Any chance SHG got flooded and is walking around with a wet shirt plastered to him?

Did Slider or Crazy McWorker drown?

1. Waaaaaay worse, but at least my desk wasn't affected.

2. I wish! SHG's office is further down the hall and unaffected.

3. NO!!

Did the supervisor plan (or execute) the leak, or was she wearing galoshes before knowing about the leak?

And when this happened in my office crazy toenail-clipping secretary got out on disability for months since she said when the carpet dried the mold made her lungs sick...

I was wondering about the galoshes myself????

She said she always keeps galoshes in her car... which theoretically is good thinking, but in practice makes you look kinda weird.

But maybe I'll start travelling with hip waders... or water wings...

So she swam down to her car to get them?

I hope no cute shoes got ruined in the process, maybe you should consider keeping galoshes under your desk too!!!

Now, I'm a little confused with the musical desk thing...considering that most of the desks were sitting in a puddle, how is it safe to keep trading terminals? Did you all think you were going to beat the odds or something? You know how like the little old ladies at Atlantic City won't leave a slot machine if it hasn't paid out in a while because they think it's gonna hit the jackpot as soon as they get up and someone else sits down? Kinda like that...but just teh opposite???
