2001 wedding

Jennifer,

I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM!!! I have been getting that response since I got engaged! Since the beginning I have always known that it would take close to two years for me and my fiance to save up the money for a wedding. And then you tell people who obviously know that money is tight for you that you have to wait until 2001 to get married and they say "OH, that's so far in the future", "Why are you waiting so long?" and act like they are unsure that it is ever going to happen at all. Well, hello, of course I would love to get married sooner, but do they have $20,000 or so dollars to give to me?

By this message you can tell I am starting to get fed up with people asking the same question and how they act when I tell them that it is in 2001 and not sooner. And personally I don't want to rush through anything. The day only comes once, and after the 5 hours it is over.

2001 wedding

Jennifer and Lori, let me be the first to apologize!! I am one of THOSE people who ask "why are you waiting so long?" I never took the time to think that my comments on a long engagement might be hurtful to the bride or groom to be. I want you to know that I am sure that most people do not ask to be mean they are just being nosy!! Thank you for pointing it out to me so that I do not offend anyone else!! Best of luck in your planing!

Jamelle

Thank you both for your support. It is difficult, but just think of all the time you have to get it "just right", instead of rushing around. So far, I have the hall (booked at 1999 prices!) and the DJ. Not too shabby.

I have looked around at other DJ's but very few of them are familiar with salsa music, while this would only be a small fraction of the music played, it is important that I have someone who knows it. Hart to Hart seems to fill this need and also was seemed to be very professional.

If anyone has heard anything about them I would appreciate your comments.

Thanks for the other side of the story Jamelle. I know most people do not mean to cause hurtful feelings, they are just curious.

> If you think your situation is bad... My date is in 2001 AND we've been together for 7 years, so not only do I get complaints about the date of the wedding, but I've also had NUMEROUS complaints about waiting for the engagement!

2001 wedding

Actually I am more in the same boat as you think. I have been with my fiance for 6 years and have been living with him for two. (We are only 22/23 respectively, so the comments weren't too bad), but we definately got comments about living together without being married. (Surprisingly, it was his family, not mine, with the problem).

2001 wedding & other insensitive stuff

Hey Brides to Be!

You know what else really annoys me? When I tell people that Chip and I have been together for five years, and they say, "Well it is about time!" as if we are not making life decisions fast enough for them!!!! Now, I just say, "No, it is now just OUR time!!!"

Maybe then they can focus on how they make their decisions...

>It's funny you say that--we're 24/26 and HIS family gave us such opposition to living together that we aren't...AND he just graduated as a doctor!! My family would have been thrilled with us living together b/c they hate me living alone while I'm in school. Family can be a real pain at times...!

2001 wedding

The really ironic part is that all of his other brothers and sisters had already lived with their significant others before they got married, years before we did. You would think they would have been fine with it, but they didn't want their second to last child to leave the nest (he's a twin and the other "last child" will never leave).

That's why the bottom line should ALWAYS be the happiness of you and your fiance and what the two of you want, because in the long run, that's truly all that matters...

2001 wedding

you can never win with people. if you get married to soon they wonder if your pregnat. if you wait to long they question why your waiting that long. im getting married oct of 2000 and we planned our wedding in sept of 1998. you can just imagine what people were saying!! its your wedding and noone should make you have second thought just to please them. the time flies by so fast and youll be GLAD you planned with a little extra time in your hands.. best of luck and dont let others influence what you and your fiance already decided on. christopher and ann marie 10-21-00
