2005 Brides.....

Re: 2005 Brides.....

See, I save a lot, and JT has no idea what the word save means, only because he never has any money to begin with! But that's just because he's only finishing college now. He will have a real job soon and money matters will be fine. I just think it's funny because whenever we talk about saving, I picture him as a little kid asking me, 'Do I have enough monies for that?'

Re: 2005 Brides.....

I am getting married in October 2005. I know I have plenty of time. I can't decide where I want have the wedding. I have a couple of possibilities in LI, but my dream is a destination wedding in the caribbean. Any ideas on how to start planning?

Also what is a realistic budget for a LI Bride. I originally said $10,000 (without the honeymoon), but I am seeing that that will be nearly impossible.

Re: 2005 Brides.....

Hi Oct05bride! Welcome and Congrats! I think a destination wedding is a great idea! I will try and see if I can find info on it. Maybe look under wedding services up top and email a travel agent.
As for the budget......if 10,000 is all you want to spend, then you can certainly make it work. You don't need to spend 50,000 on a wedding to make it beautiful and special. I mean, the good thing about planning so early is that we have enough time to shop around and look for ideas. Maybe to save money you can make your invites with a software program, or look for them onsale at a place like Party City (which, I have to say, I am going to look there, I hear they have nice invites.) And try to finnagle prices at halls. It never hurts to try. I know of plenty of DJs with reasonable prices, and to cut back on photography, just pay for the proofs and enlarge them later. BUT, I am sure there are affordable photographers who can make albums for you at a reasonable price. Definitely go and look at the vendors under wedding services. You can email them for information from their page. So far, the vendors I have spoken with from the site have been so nice and helpful. Let us know if there's anything we can help with too! Good luck and welcome again!

Welcome Oct05bride! Congrats on your engagement! Prncssrachel said it best, you do not need to spend $50,000 to make a wedding beautiful and as 2005ers, time is definitely in our favor. We have time to shop around This site is very useful and the ladies here are very helpful. Good Luck in your planning!

Re: 2005 Brides.....

Thanks prncssrachel. Any help will be greatly appreciated! I am getting my MBA part time and working full time, so I have very little time for anything.

By the way, I just have to tell you all that this board is very helpful. I am glad that I found it!

Re: 2005 Brides.....

Oct05bride, we also are in school and working full-time (actually, I work two jobs too), so I know how it feels. But the good thing is that with two years to go, you don't have to worry about that overwhelming feeling of having to get everything done right now. I will look into some vendors and prices for you so you can get a general idea of what to expect. Just give me a minute Also, where are you looking to get married?

Re: 2005 Brides.....

Oh, you also might want to look into a bridal consultant/wedding planner. A lot of times they base their business on being able to get you good deals with vendors that they have a good relationship with. So let's say you wanted to only spend 10K, it would most likely cost 10% of your total budget, or 1000 dollars to have a planner, then she would be able to help get you a nice hall for really cheap, or flowers for half the price, etc. It might be something good to look into.

Re: 2005 Brides.....

(Can you tell I have a lot of time on my hands today? Haha)....Ok, so Oct05bride, just as an example here, I went to the Middle Island Country Club's webpage (they're a vendor on here), and they have packages that start at 39.95. That includes floral centerpieces and the cake. So just as an idea, hopfully that helps.
