25% deposit for RH?

Original post by Dr Meg

Posted this in 08, meant to post it here:
So I just called The Crescent Beach club and although they are cheaper then I thought they require a 25% deposit which works out to be between $5000-7000. Is this typical? I wasn't expecting to have to lay out this much up front.

I don't have to give any more payments until a few weeks before the actual wedding... so it worked for me... my RH will cost around 16,000 so I am comfortable putting down as much as I did. No worries here!

I paid 1,000 when I signed the contract, this week I have to give 2,000 and then nothing til 6 months and a week before the date. I thought that was alot.

That sounds crazy to me. I'd go talk to them in person and see if they can work something out with you.

my deposit was $1,000 for a guarantee of 80 people.... the amount you said sounds like a LOT..and if you do decide to pay it, make sure you get a receipt.

Re: 25% deposit for RH?

I actually woke up kind of depressed about this this morning, thinking there is no way we can pull off a $7000 deposit.
FH just called and he had a talk with his Dad. They started talking about the wedding and Jeff asked if they had put down that much of a deposit for his sisters wedding. Without evening having to ask, my FFIL offered to give us the money for the deposit!!!!

We still have to go and look at the place next Saturday and we are going to try and squeeze in a few other places (any suggestions for places on the water?) but my dream RH is now sort of a reality!!!

Re: 25% deposit for RH?

In my experience that is not typical at all. Usually it is a small amount up front at the time of the contract signing and then a low payment either every month or every set of months. Even Crest Hollow, where we almost booked and which had a bad payment playment, did not ask for 25% up front. They asked for about 50% before the wedding and the other 50% two weeks before the wedding but the first 50% was split over 8 months of payments. My current payment from JT is $1,000 every three months totalling about half of the total with the remainder due two weeks before the wedding. Something like this is more or less the standard. If I were you, I'd negotiate this. You'll lay out 50% before the weeding but not 25% up front all at once. Good luck!

Yeah I think we are still going to try and negotiate this. Probably a lot of their bookings are about a year away, so if we say something like we'll put 10% down and then have 25% paid by a year to the event I think that would be reasonable. But if they aren't will to negotiate at least I know we now have the option of still booking there.

I love that place we actually checked it out the sneaky way we went to dinner there with some friends then told them we were checking them out hahahhaa.......that sounds like a big deposit and becuase Mazz said about that rule in nassau i wouldnt do it!......also when we told the BM (it was a guy don't remember the name) he laughed in our face when we told him we were getting married in 2009... It was like feb 2007 we went to look at it.....I was very disheartened by that cause the place is gorgeous and if you want by the water that's one of like 2 places on long island you can get married on the beach without having to get any special permits or anything......

Goodluck the place is gorgeous!

Re: 25% deposit for RH?

I am still a bit hesitant about the deposit but we'll see when we go there.
I found a few other places to call tonight which seem to be at least close to a beach/on the water. I don't necessarily need to get married on the beach but I want a place close enough to beach access that we could go and take our pics.
Tonight I am going to call:
The Surf Club (in New Rochelle)
Glen Island Harbor Clubs (in New Rochelle)
Sands Lido Beach
Carltun on the Sound
Bridgeview Yacht Club (Island Park)
Anyone heard/seen any of these places.
I don't mind going so far into Nassau and further as all of FH's fam is in NJ so it is kind of in between.

surf club i heard good things about... i wanted to look there since its like 10 mins away from me but FH was dead set against going any place where our fam has had some type of function at! lol

glen island... i used to work there and it is gorgeous! can be quite expensive if you do peak, but you get a ton of food and it is prob the best food ive ever had...

bridgeview... i used to go clubbin there all the time... beautiful place.... i wanted to look into it, but we fell in love with the 1st rh off our list =)

For glen island and bridgeview can you get married on the beach, or is the beach close enough to walk to and take pictures there?

I went on a calling frenzy last night and we have 3 appointments to see RH's.
This weekend it's The bridgeview yacht club and the surf club and next weekend it's the Crescent Beach club.

Our deposit for VIP Country Club was $8000, not sure what percentage they asked for. You may want to look at some places in New Rochelle on the water. It's not far at all . . . .about 20 minutes from Queens. Glen Island Country Club is absolutely gorgeous. I would have gone there but my bf had her wedding there and I needed to be different

We looked at the Surf club this past weekend. Going to the Crescent this weekend and making our decision (although I already made mine )
