How many of you work two jobs? With the wedding and trying to buy a house, I think I will need to suck it up and get a second job - at least for a while. Just wonderin how many others are in the same boat.

Re: 2nd job?
Once I pass my practical exam on the 5th (positive thoughts - positive thoughts!) I may work a 2nd part-time job...

Re: 2nd job?
I did it for a while...it was really hard, and for the $$ I was making (Banana Republic), even though I had 50% off on all clothing it wasn't worth it...so I just buckled down and cut down on a lot of expenses such as my NY Times delivery, AOL (switched to cable modem (cheaper with my cable and telephone package)), switched to a less expensive cell phone plan, bring my own lunch (everyday lunch in the city will break you), do my own manicure/pedicure (even though it takes longer I do a much better job than the salons do), and altogether we cut down on a lot of weekend outings etc...you also have to consider the fact that if you get a good paying 2nd job, you will most likely fall into a higher tax bracket and will have a lot higher deductions...so I dont know if it really pays off...

Good point! I keep telling FH I am gonna get a job at a furniture place so we can afford some furniture and then I'll switch over to a home place so we can afford dishes and towels and stuff. Of course working at BR is tempting just to get 50% off - but then all the money I earned would go to clothing which would defeat the whole purpose

Thats EXACTLY what happened to me!

Re: 2nd job?
No way, I don't have the time or energy. I wake up at 6:30am and don't get home from work until 6:30pm... Thats 12 hours, M-F.. The only time I could work a second job would be on weekends, and that would mean no days off and never seeing FH! Not worth it.

ME!!!!!
Its the only way we are going to get ahead. We are paying for the wedding ourselves w/no help and intend on working to get the house. There is no way my salary plus his PO salary is going to cover these LI rates!

Re: 2nd job?
I have had 2 jobs for over 3 years. I really want to quit, but we are also paying for the wedding ourselves. It's tough, but I am so used to the $$. I start my new job next week and plan on putting the extra $$$ directly into savings. I want no debt once the wedding is done.

I write while I am at my job - I am working on pieces for 2 magazines right now, but since I'm unpublished, I'm unsure as to whether or not I'll be making money for my work.

Re: 2nd job?
I worked two jobs for almost 10 years and quit my second job in February. Although now I regret it since we don't have the amount of $$ I think we should have in the bank by now for the wedding. I will get another for the holidays.

Re: 2nd job?
if i were to get a 2nd job - and i have toyed with the notion - i want something cash in pocket - like bartending, or waitressing - something where you can make a $100 a night (on a good night) - but it is so hard to get stuff done, see FH, and friends, - i get tired thinking about it ....hopefully i can ride out the next year with only one job - but i always keep my eyes open for ways to make some extra cash....

Re: 2nd job?
I would love to get a second job but I can't since I work during the day and FH works at nite there would be no one to take care of our daughter and I wouldn't be bale to spend time with her so thats more important then buying a house at this point

Re: 2nd job?
I work full-time in a law firm, and also work friday nights and all day saturday as a licensed veterinary technician. Sunday is my only day to snooze.

I checked 'I dont work at all' then I realized that drugs are bad.
If I had the strength for a second job, I'd do it.

Re: 2nd job?
I only work one job but I've really thought about getting a P/T job just to bring in some extra cash. FI doesn't want me to have to do that, but sometimes I don't think we have a choice. I'd love to sell Avon or something, but having to pay for the catalogs and everything up front is what I don't like about those things.
